Cystoscopy

And some biopsies under a general anaesthetic. Has anyone had one of these and can advise on recovery time please?

I've got one in a couple of weeks. I have a booking appointment next week and I know I can ask then but I'm planning stuff now for the Easter holidays and I don't know how many days to leave free afterwards to recover.

Any other advice very welcome. Thanks

I had a cystoscopy a couple of years ago. Literally hopped off the bed and walked out of theatre. I was awake though.

I had one under local anaesthetic at the beginning of March . Took 20 minutes - a bit sore afterwards but went out for lunch straight after.
The nurse was talking to distract me when the camera went in but after that it was fine. Hope it all goes well.

I've had this a few times. It's usually a day procedure so home in time for tea. I imagine the level of post operative pain will be related to your underlying condition. I took it easy for a few days afterwards.

Just had one yesterday and also a dilation. Was awake and active straightaway. And fine to go home after some biscuits and passing urine. Some twinges and bleeding but that was the dilation I think.

Had a today off work as was a bit tired but would have managed tbh.

I had one a few years ago and was dreading it but it was really fine. More embarrassing (in a smear kind of way) than painful or uncomfortable.

I didn't have an anaesthetic, they just used lube to get the camera in which smarted a little but only for a few seconds.

I wouldn't be worried about having another, up and about and back to work the following day

Twice - both with a dilation and second with biopsies, IV abs and hydrodistention - stretched my bladder from 50ml to 750ml .

First time was a bit nippy and heavy bleed after but it was combined with a big gynae op, so hard to tell what pain was what iyswim . Was recovered from the cystoscopy by the Saturday, op was on a Monday I think .

Second time slight pain and bleeding the first time I peed then nothing much at all . I was kept in because I took a long time to come round from the general but fine otherwise . That was after three years of self catheterising, urethral trauma, urodynamics, dozens of severe UTIs so I was terrified but it was fine . I actually woke up wondering if they had operated at all as was no real pain at all !

It’s not too bad at all, as long as you drink a lot of water (more than you think!) after it’ll be grand . They said to me to take cystitis sachets if I was worried it would sting but it wasn’t too bad at all .
