Tooth or nose problem?

About 2 months ago I started to get a hard lump on my top gum almost under the nose. The area was very stiff and felt swollen and I assumed it was a tooth or gum infection and called my dentist who couldn't see any infection on the xray but said it was possible and prescribed antibiotics.

The lump spread and eventually started to show in my nose in the form of what I would call a cyst. A small hard lump that eventually burst.

It's back again three or so months later and I don't know whether to call my doctor or dentist as I don't know if the infection is coming from a tooth (I have really bad teeth issues) or it is totally unrelated and I need to see a gp. I feel absolutely fine and no pain but there is definitely swelling under my nose again!!

Sounds unusual OP. If the lump is situated on the gum and you have existing persistent dental issues I'd assume dentist, and would ask them to look again or for a second opinion. Did the Antibiotics make any difference when you took them 2 months ago?

If not then perhaps you might want to get advice from the GP, or at least ask them to have a look at the lump and advise. I don't think it would be a waste of a GP's time at all to have this checked, they may be able to shed some light.

In the meantime it can't hurt to do frequent warm salt water rinses in the mouth, which may help.

First go to the dentist to rule out anything dental, then if they can't find anything GP

The GP will just say could be dental needs a dentist, even if it's not. So first port of call is dentist. They can also do imaging to rule out different types of cyst.
