WTF was this about!

OK, this happened a few months ago but my boyfriend and I were talking about it this morning.

Until November last year, I was seeing someone on a fairly casual basis. We would often go out and get an Uber back to mine. This ended when I began an actual relationship with a friend of mine.

My now boyfriend and my ex know each other and my bf and I have bumped into him socially a few times. No issues.

Anyway, after a couple of weeks of seeing each other, my boyfriend got an Uber home from mine in the morning.

The driver asked him if he'd had a good evening and went on to ask him if he knew I lived with my partner. Bf just said, "Does she?" or something equally non committal, obviously knowing the truth.

The driver said that I did and he knew because he'd driven us home previously on several occasions.

Given that you can check your previous journeys on the Uber app, and I could see that no driver by this name, nor car fitting the description had ever picked me up... WTF??

At the time, I was just a bit Confused by it but it actually struck me as very odd this morning!

Driver may have confused your address with a neighbours.

WeAreTheHeroes · 31/03/2022 08:06

Whatever - driver should keep his mouth shut. It's no business or his or anyone else!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/03/2022 08:16

gosh
i wonder if the driver went on mn equivalent, should i tell the truth about this passenger

BlackPumps · 31/03/2022 08:18

He referred to me by name (Uber drivers have your name).

Yeah, I agree.

No discretion or awareness of other people's lives at all.

Maybe the boyfriend is lying?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/03/2022 08:25

what a gossip!

EnjoyingTheSilence · 31/03/2022 08:27

Hope your BF gave him a zero rating. Totally unprofessional and creepy

BlackPumps · 31/03/2022 13:18

What reason would have to lie? He was a bit bemused when he told me at the time.

This is wrong on so many levels and not to mention dangerous. What if your bf was violent and believed him? I would complain. Its a gross invasion of privacy and presumptuous and shitty

piratehugs · 31/03/2022 13:36

My first thought was that the driver had changed his car and had a new account with a new name. Which begs the question, why was he removed from Uber in the first place? (I'm speculating wildly.)

ChameFangeNail · 31/03/2022 13:41

@AHungryCaterpillar

I wondered the same thing. I can't imagine why a random Uber driver would give a flying fuck about your personal life, let alone mention it to your boyfriend who, for all the driver knows, could have been your brother or cousin or anyone.

It seems more likely that your boyfriend made it up to make some weird point or dig about it to you because he's insecure about your ex.

That’s the first thing that jumped out at me, if you’ve never used that driver then why would he say it?! If you had said you used that driver then fair enough but you said you haven’t so how would he know?
Georgeskitchen · 31/03/2022 14:25

Don't they have client confidentiality?

BlackPumps · 31/03/2022 16:47

Tbh, ordinarily, I'd have drawn the boyfriend lying conclusion but it wouldn't make any sense in this case.

He's definitely not insecure about the ex and has demonstrated many times that he trusts me.

Just can see why he'd lie about it...

So what’s the other explanation if you’ve never been in this car with this driver? Must be confusing you with someone else then as that’s the only other explanation otherwise Confused

BlackPumps · 31/03/2022 17:16

Tbh, I don't know. I'd just accepted it at face value and thought it was a bit rude of the driver until it was brought up this morning...
