Failed medical abortion

Hi all. First post here. I had an at home medical termination on 5th march at around 5 week pregnant, I took the post termination test after 3 weeks and it was positive. My GP refered me to the EPU at the local hospital for a scan which showed a gestational sac, yolk sac and embryo measuring 1.8 mm. I was told.to go back after a week (today) was re scanned and the sac was well defined and embryo had grown to 2.4mm still no detectable HB. Told to go back in 10 days to re asses as still not clear. Does anyone have any experience with this. As my brain is boggled. And now I really want there to be a HB and baby

Hi I think this means you are still pregnant. If you don't want to be pregnant you need to follow up fast. Either repeat medical abortion or better still ask for D and C now. Your doctor needs to stop dithering. Change doctor or visit Family Planning if you are getting the brush off.

I think if you wanted to still go ahead with the termination then you need to ask to be put in for a D&C ASAP. However, you seem to indicate that you may actually want to still be pregnant, so the best you can do is sit and wait for the follow up. I'm really sorry you're in this precarious position of not knowing.

Hi, I’ve just read your post and wanted to say I experienced the same. Took the tablets for a medical abortion 2 weeks ago, had light cramps and passed 3 clots then the bleeding subsided the next day.

I’ve had 2 miscarriages before and just felt the amount of bleeding wasn’t right. I rang MSI helpline 3 days later and they booked me in for a scan. As I imagined the termination hadn’t worked. The nurse told me they are now telling women to take all 6 tablets on day 2 as they have realised 4 tablets don’t always work.

I am now almost 12weeks pregnant with twins and booked in for a surgical on Monday next week. My head and heart are completely divided on what to do.

But I just wanted to say ring the helpline and explain your bleeding wasn’t heavy enough (I also still had morning sickness) and get referred for a scan. Even if it’s just to put your mind at rest as the worrying is awful.

going threw the same myself I had a medical abortion at 8 weeks 2 days but only took 4 of the 2nd tablets. Now I think it hasn’t worked as the pregnancy test given with the treatment has showed positive. It’s faint but I’m going to keep doing normal pregnancy tests and phone BPAS for further information etc. I did experience bleeding and clots haven’t passed many clots and bleeding was only heavy for the first day ever since it’s just been light bleeding and brown blood(which is old blood).

Hi all going through the same at the moment . Been having heavy bleeding while i was away for a few days took myself to a and e there to be told it had failed and was all still there . They phoned through to let my local hospital know whats happening and they basically said they dont belive what thw scans says. Im so stressed out and bleeding is still carrying on . I just wanna be back to myself xx
