Help with names - Ds2

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 27/03/2022 16:46

I’m expecting DS2 in August and already struggling with names. DS1 is called Oliver (Oli). What would you rank these following contenders (list is short/limited as surname sounds like Poo!)

Arthur (nn? don’t like art/artie),
Joseph (Joe),
Finley (Finn),
Reuben (Roo)

Also my godson is called Joseph (he’s 15 years old), does this rule this name out in your opinion? My best friend has indicated she wouldn’t mind if we chose the same name but not sure if she was just being polite and would be secretly fuming. We see each other about 3 times a year as we don’t now live local to one another.

Thanks in advance

I like Joe . No qualms about using name despite link.
Don't like full Arthur
Not sure about Finn and definitely not Roo Poo !
I think Joe or Finn probably

GeneLovesJezebel · 27/03/2022 16:51

No, your god son being called Joseph does not rule it out. I’d be was a relative that would be different.
Arthur will probably be shortened by friends, so I wouldn’t use it if you don’t like them.
I prefer the spelling Ruben, but I like the other 3 names.

  • if it was a relative

Roo Poo? Really

Ratatoo · 27/03/2022 17:47

Roo poo gets my vote

Leeds2 · 27/03/2022 17:47

Of the names on your list, I prefer Joe. If he were mine, I would have Joe on the birth certificate rather than Joseph. It wouldn't bother me that my godson had the same name.
If your surname sounds like Poo, I really wouldn't want my child to be known as Too, although I think Rueben is a nice name.

LoganberryJam · 27/03/2022 17:50

I think Jack goes best with Oli.

Remmy123 · 27/03/2022 18:11

Oil & Finn

Lovely

Also Finn reminds me of a cool
Boy I used to know and isn't that common

NeedleNoodle3 · 27/03/2022 18:24

Roo Hugh Poo.

Felix any good?

Rubyupbeat · 28/03/2022 13:20

Reuben is lovely, and no need to be shortened.
Finn and Arthur are very popular names in this area

Nosetickle · 28/03/2022 13:23

Reuben is my favourite and goes really well with Oliver but I love all your name choices. Arthur doesn’t need a nickname in my opinion it’s a short name anyway.

Cotswoldmama · 28/03/2022 13:30

I have a Reuben, we don't really shorten it, sometimes to Reubie. I like Finn but I don't like Finlay I find it a bit chavvy. Joe's cute.

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 28/03/2022 17:58

Love Felix @LaraDeSalle however unfortunately due to surname anything that ends in x or S sounds like spew! ( poo becomes spew unfortunately with the surname 🤦‍♀️)

So I would just hear Felix Spew 😂

Would be Reuben from your list for me, I wouldn’t worry about shortening it though as I think it just happens naturally. May I suggest Flynn as an alternative to Finlay? Doesn’t need shortening that way and sounds lovely (in my opinion) with Oli

PattyMelt · 28/03/2022 19:10

I like Finn. I also like Griff or Griffin.
Oli and Griff sound good.

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 28/03/2022 23:23

Mmmmm Flynn is worth considering.

I’m not sure about Griff as it reminds me of someone I worked with once and I associate it with him ( in a negative way).
