google maps/step free access route

Does anyone know how to make Google Maps give walking directions that are step free? Or of another app that can do it?

I’m a wheelchair user. I’m trying to look up directions for a trip to Birmingham next month. I know where we’re staying and where we’re going are close enough we don’t need a taxi. But the directions google maps gives includes the line “take the stairs” which obviously I can’t.

Accessable ?

I'd have thought if anyone could do it, Google could.

Don't forget streetview ...

Citymapper recently launched map powers that include step free routes for all directions - try the citymapper app instead of Google maps?

No there isn’t one I’ve found. You can select a route not travel over water say but not step free. The most you can do is try and follow the route on street view which is tricky.

Can’t believe I forgot about AcessAble! Unfortunately they don’t seem to do directions. And they also don’t have the venue I wanted to go to on.

Go on Google maps to the venue you wanted to go to then look up photos people have uploaded.

Then check Google Street maps going towards the hotel.

Or phone the hotel and speak to someone with local knowledge on the reception desk?

Citymapper does apparently have a step free option but it won’t let me see directions (to see if I can choose step free) because I’m not in the vicinity.

Sadly, experience puts me off asking a member of staff at the hotel - people often forget steps.

I've heard following the cycling route on google maps as opposed the the pedestrian is often a flatter option, not entirely sure if it works 100% of the time but might be useful to look!

playmelikeasymphony · 28/03/2022 15:16

Oh I just looked and the cycling route is step free!

Excellent! Glad that you've found something that works. Enjoy your trip!

You could try using a cycle route planner, they usually at least say of there are steps or obstancles where you have to get off your bike, so not exactly step free, but you will then be able to change your route to go around the obstacle iyswim. Komoot and Ride with GPS are the ones I use. You can sign up for free to both.

Aaaaargh sorry for the crap spelling.
