Persistent noisy neighbour

Have you been able to resolve and maintain good relations?

On-going for over two years. Mainly early morning 5am. Otherwise we happily rub along. No antisocial noise at night so I know I can get to sleep.

I have done the full range measures of addressing the issue. Gentle chat over the garden fence, speaking direct to them telling how it affects me, banging on the wall, note through the door. Couple of times I have been so frustrated that I have so tempted to knock on the door at crack of dawn but that would be a step too far. The only thing that seems to work is ongoing ‘nagging’ and we are now at the point where neighbourly relations are beginning to sour.

It is low level noise which doesn’t justify anything formal. But it is really getting me wound up.

Any words of wisdom very welcome.

What is the noise they're creating?

Kenwouldmixitup · 26/03/2022 19:23

*on going nagging. It feels this way to me but I draw it to their attention about every three months and it does resolve for a short time and then they get complacent again.

And the noise is not a response to something I am doing because I have asked them outright.

Exercise machines that beep a count down.

If anyone has suggestions or positive experience, much appreciated.

white noise machine. it saves my sanity. I have the lectrofan one and it masks all outside noise.

Kenwouldmixitup · 26/03/2022 20:13

Thank you @flapjackfairy Will check it out now.

Soundproof the attached wall?

Kenwouldmixitup · 26/03/2022 21:28

@user1471538283 Thanks also. I am looking into this too.

I feel much better having some manageable strategies to keep this in perspective.

In the grand scheme of things it’s not a major issue but having something like this does grind me down.

@flapjackfairy I have a sound app that’ll get me through until I can order the Lectrofan. A great suggestion. Thank you.

How do they resolve it? You shouldn't have to put up with that.
underneaththeash · 26/03/2022 21:58

I think the only way to solve these sorts of things is to do a similar thing back with makes them think about their own behaviour. So if they’re up at 5am, have something noisy around 11.

purpleme12 · 26/03/2022 22:02

What noise is it? Just machines bleeping?

Kenwouldmixitup · 26/03/2022 22:10

@purpleme12 this is probably the perspective of my neighbours. However, the sound carries through to mine as though low level drilling. A bit being in the dentist’s chair at 5am for an hour.

@ @EmmaH2022 They resolve it by switching off the sound on the machine when they start exercising.

@underneaththeash - and they then ramp up the noise from 4am. Same problem, twice the volume. Confused

Soundproofing that adjoining wall if you can. We did that in a previous house - lost a few CMs of wall, but it was literally life-changing.

EmmaH2022 · 26/03/2022 22:16

I wonder why they can't just switch it off and keep it off. Also wondering if the beeps have a volume control. Must be so annoying.

I can't use white noise, it just annoys me to the point I'm amazed people find it helpful.

Kenwouldmixitup · 26/03/2022 22:31

Re sound proofing the wall - variety of solutions. Thanks all.

@EmmaH2022 ‘wonder why they can’t just switch it off.’ Like PP stated ‘just machines beeping.’ They can’t understand what’s the problem “after all, they’re the ones who have to get up at 5am.” An absence of understanding of the impact they have on other people. Angry
