If you have someone cooking for you what’s on the menu for Mother’s Day dinner/lunch

Cant decide what I want to do tomorrow, very happy to spend the day with my 3 lovely DD’s and DH in the sun but other than that I’m stuck...

DH is a wonderful cook and will cook whatever I’d like but I’m just not sure what. We normally have a roast on a Sunday so thinking of a way to make that a bit fancier or go for something completely different maybe in the garden.

If you’re staying at home and cooking yourself something nice or someone is for you, what you having?

DH is making mechoui (North African slow roast) lamb and flatbreads. It takes seven hours so will be ready when we finish a day of dog agility, gardening, swimming, a snowboard lesson, advance holiday packing and homework. I’ve got a lovely bottle of Pinot gris to go with it, and DS and I are making ice cream this afternoon for pudding (almond butter chocolate mmmmm….)

I’m a big greedier so am already excited!

Dh is doing Roast chicken with asparagus, butternut squash, broccoli and parsnips. Followed by strawberry trifle. He’s bought a bottle of champagne too - hooray! Smile

SeanMean · 26/03/2022 13:51

Bruschetta
Tagliatelle with monkfish and Serrano ham
Meringue with berries and whipped cream

Looking forward to it!

Oh @LabraDabraDoo that sounds phenomenonal!

Crunchymum · 26/03/2022 13:55

Takeaway of my choice.

Probably Turkish Mezze.

Pegasussnail · 26/03/2022 13:58

I got the groceries sorted yesterday so it's BBQ marinated pork chops with mash and veg. I'm out with the DC. Also a lovely cake 🍰

Jobhelpplease · 26/03/2022 13:59

@LabraDabraDoo thank you, that’s our dinner for tonight sorted!!!

Sounds wonderful!

Takeaway for me! DH And DS are making pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream for brunch and then DH is picking up Mexican from a local restaurant for tea.

KingJeremyTheWickedd · 26/03/2022 14:08

Roast chicken with roast mini potatoes, tender stem broccoli, salad and coleslaw. It’s a bit lighter than a full roast dinner so perfect for the warmer weather.
I’ll also have a huge chunk of coffee and walnut cake for afters because it’s my favourite and DP hates it Smile

WeAllHaveWings · 26/03/2022 14:15

dh is roasting a mustard glazed gammon and cauliflower cheese

whatdodos · 26/03/2022 14:23

I'm so jealous of all these lovely sounding meals! My mother's day plans got ruined by covid so I'm making me and my DS pancakes in the morning then I have a fancy pizza for me (kids one for him) for tea as a treat to myself to not do any washing up 😅

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 26/03/2022 14:24

Some steaks appear to have been badly hidden at the back of the fridge Grin

Nearlyadoctor · 26/03/2022 14:27

I’ve got my mum, son & his fiancé coming over plus dh, Dd & I so I’m doing slow cooker pulled pork in rolls with apple sauce, wedges, pasta salad and coleslaw.
Followed by a homemade gooey chocolate gateaux Smile

Hornetfarmer · 26/03/2022 14:31

We're having a family BBQ with Wagyu beef steaks and homemade salads; potato salad, coleslaw, green salad and a brocolli, cheese and bacon salad. Followed by profiteroles and washed down with a G and T. Looking forward to it!

SNUG2022 · 26/03/2022 14:36

I've requested a vegetable curry with all the trimmings.

rainydogday · 26/03/2022 14:39

DH has bought a bbq smoker. First time for smoking a whole chicken......I have covid and can't taste anything! But have ordered plenty and of fizz as like the sensation of bubbles 🤣

mbosnz · 26/03/2022 15:41

DH is making Eggs Benedict for brunch.

Then late noon, early evening, we're having a bbq - honey soy marinaded steak, chicken kebabs, and sausages, with potato salad, lettuce salad, grilled asparagus, grilled capsicums, and corn on the cob. With a lovely bottle of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc to go with it. . .

Oh no! This was me at Christmas time. It was quite a torment.

These meals all sound fabulous and have given me lots of ideas for special occasions.

itsgettingweird · 26/03/2022 16:22

We are having a BBQ.

lightand · 26/03/2022 16:52

Something roasted. Maybe chicken.

WingBingo · 26/03/2022 17:22

Las & Sal tomorrow, cooked by Chef DH

He’s making the bolognaise now.

DelilahBucket · 26/03/2022 17:45

I'm making a really good lasagne. I always cook on a weekend, DH usually does mid week and I enjoy doing cooking so I'm not bothered about all this day off stuff. DH and DS have been doing secret baking though apparently!

WelshyMaud · 26/03/2022 17:49

First BBQ of the year. It was glorious weather here today and the same expected tomorrow so we're making the most of it.

CantStandMeow · 26/03/2022 17:54

It's dance show weekend here so possibly a drive thru between shows if I'm lucky. If not it'll be a meal deal in the car like today's Grin

Onceuponatimethen · 26/03/2022 17:56

This all sounds very special. Here it’s sandwiches. Dp is not a confident cook and we are saving for a holiday so not going out tomorrow. I’m very excited about putting my feet up all day though!!
