Freelance work?..

Probably not the right place to post but looking for traffic.

I’ve been approached by someone I know to do some freelance work for them. I’m employed by a Company.

  • would I need to be listed on Companies House?
  • if not, can you get a company to invoice you and settle the tax yourself?

How does it work? Wondering if registering as self employed is always necessary. I know that is a ridiculous question but I’d rather not have ongoing obligations/fees if it’s not absolutely necessary.

You don't need to register with Comapnise House unless you plan to be a limited company.

You send your invoice to who you're working for for what you are owed.

You fill in a tax return to cover the tax you owe to HMRC - it's been a long time since I did this, worth giving them a call to be registered as self employed.

I'm sure someone else with more up yk date knowledge will be along shortly...

You can earn up to £1000 without having to do anything. Beyond that you need to register with HMRC as a sole trader.
