Ds is going to be 10 in a few weeks and we are struggling with what to get him!

He has asked for a trailer to go on his push bike, he seems really keen on it, but we are not quite sure why. He says it's to carry stuff around in, but he's not allowed to go to the shops by himself or ride anywhere by himself. We have a big garden, 2 acres, so plenty to ride around in, but I just think he will be bored with it very quickly. I am absolutely happy to buy it for him, if that's what he really wants, but they are about £90 so not a cheap option.
Any ideas of other things to put to him? He's not massively in to tech, much more in to nature and the outdoors.

Thanks in advance x

Has he got a hover board with a go kart attachment ? Swing ball ? Football nets ?

Swifey40 · 24/03/2022 10:55

Fabulous ideas, thank you!

He's into rugby but that's a good idea! We have a swing ball too!
Two of our friends have broken their arms on hover boards, so I think maybe thats a no from me, although I appreciate you could do that anytime 🤣

@Swifey40 have you looked into the go kart attachments for them , my granddaughter has one she wizzes round on it , loves it . If you have a look at the Decathlon website you will probably get ideas for all sorts of things

Littlemissprosecco · 24/03/2022 11:06

BMX or skateboard he can build ramps etc….!

Branleuse · 24/03/2022 11:08

Id get him the trailer he asked for. At least it makes it easy for you

HumptySumptious · 24/03/2022 11:10

A bike trailer could be a brilliant investment 😀, could you use it too? I'd love one.

CMOTDibbler · 24/03/2022 11:10

I'd get him what he actually wants. Riding round with stuff in a trailer to get to the further reaches of the garden sounds great to me, and if he isn't interested long term, then thats better than not getting the thing he specifically asked for

Adult-standard den kit? thedenkitco.com/collections/den-kits/products/ed-stafford-shelter

Swifey40 · 24/03/2022 11:13

Absolutely, if he's set on it we will get it for him, just didn't want him to be disappointed when it's actually here! It's tricky.
Will look at decathlon too, thanks

Just get him his trailer for his bike he hasn't asked for anything else. And if he is disappointed then that is on him.

Wildlynx · 24/03/2022 11:33

Slackline? Decathlon do those too!

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 24/03/2022 12:22

When I’ve struggled in the past for gifts for DS and other kids I’ve always looked to get an experience instead of an actual thing.

Would he be interested in Go Ape or a zip lining thing? Maybe the Bear Grylls adventure thing in Brum if it’s age appropriate?

Worth remembering that while he’s not allowed to the shops by himself at the moment it won’t be long before he’s in secondary and will be gaining independence. Trailer will still presumably be in use then and might be more handy.

A hammock! My ds is a bit older than yours but loves his!

Rowgtfc72 · 24/03/2022 15:33

Vauxhall young driver driving lesson. Take kids from 10 but there's a height limit. Dds been doing lessons every few months for 4 years now and can drive perfectly well🙂

Oh, is it a free-standing hammock?
Sprig1 · 24/03/2022 16:59

A pull along garden tipping trolley. Similar concept to the bike trailer but he can use it at home. My 11yo loves ours and would play with it all day, filling it with sticks etc. The added bonus is that he will probably enjoy doing things with it that are helpful to you too.

hennaoj · 24/03/2022 18:19

Ereader if he likes reading. I struggled with a Christmas present for my 13 year old and he loves his, uses it more than his laptop.

Hellocatshome · 24/03/2022 18:42

We got DS a try dive scuba diving session for his 10th birthday he absolutely loved it.

Ahwig · 24/03/2022 19:11

I bought my grandson a metal detector at that age and he loved it.

JassyRadlett · 24/03/2022 19:14

My eldest is the same age and got a proper telescope for his birthday. He adores it. The size of your garden suggests you're not in a built up area so may be good for stargazing?

Impatientwino · 24/03/2022 19:18

Electric chocolate fondue set went down well here at Christmas. We got this one and are really happy with it. Easy to use and clean. We bought chocolate drops made for melting which makes it really easy to use.
