Is anyone a magistrate?

I'm considering applying and would be interested to hear experiences.

I'm at a stage in my career where I can't see anywhere I want to progress to, don't particularly want or need more money, but aren't really feeling that fulfilled.

I'm seeing this as a way to develop myself and do some new things without changing my job.

Obviously being 50s, white, professional doesn't make me a sought-after candidate, but I can try.

Hi
My DD has an interview to become a magistrate next week.

She did the court visit and applied in January. Made the first sift, had references taken up and now has an interview online via Teams. She has her first interview in the morning and possibly a second in the afternoon. She needs to be available all day.

She has the advantage/disadvantage of being under 30. Only 88 magistrates out of 20,000 are currently under 30.

How far have you got with the process?

Yes me, been one for 14 years.

DrSophia · 01/05/2022 01:48

@PinkGinInATin would you recommend it? I'm seriously considering submitting an application.

@PinkGinInATin Would love to hear more about your experience?

What made you become a magistrate?

How hard and long was the application process?

What did the training involve?

How long was it before you were actually hearing cases?

How much time commitment did you give to the role 14 years ago and now?

Do you still enjoy it?

How has the role changed?

After a rigorous day of interviews and tasks yesterday. The panel are recommending that the DD be appointed as a magistrate on our local city's bench.

So proud of her.
