Health Insurance

We really need to economise, financially we are struggling with all the recent extra costs. Our biggest outlay over our mortgage and food is private health insurance. Local health services are really shocking, 2+ yrs to see some specialists and I really don't want to go without insurance, but ours is huge.
We pay £500 per month for Bupa and have another smaller policy with Simply Health. I don't want to change the Simply one as it covers dental and there's no chance of an NHS dentist.
We been with Bupa for 25yrs. We haven't used it that much, but I don't know how we start looking for new policies, what do you do about declaring previous treatment, health conditions etc?
Any recommendations?

@DalarnaHorses did you managed to find a solution? I have recently appointed my health protected as my health insurance broker, I was recommended by a family member and they have done a great job bringing down my premiums. My new policy includes dental and optical cover and it is substantially less than what I was paying previously for comparable cover. I highly recommend www.myhealthprotected.co.uk
