Emma mattresses - any thoughts?

I need a new mattress for my bed and saw that the Emma mattresses have currently got great offers on but I’ve never bought one without lying on it first! Has anyone got an Emma mattress? How would you describe it?

I like a firmish mattress with a softer top layer. I’m replacing a pocket strung mattress with a foam top layer

I’m surprised that the number of people who found it too hard. There are two versions though so maybe they all had the Hybrid one. We’ve got the original and it is definitely at the softer end of firm - Which describes it as more towards medium than firm like the Simba. It is definitely less firm than I would have preferred but it is supportive and a vast improvement on my previous one which absolutely killed my back. I do find it can be quite warm though which can be lovely in winter but imagine in very hot weather maybe not so much (as last summer was such a washout we didn’t have to worry about that)

The first few nights ours arrived I nearly cried, it was like sleeping on a board. We like a firm mattress but it was too hard. My friend was adamant we should give it time (it was her recommendation that we should buy one)

She was absolutely right, it has softened up but is still lovely and firm and we both sleep really well. I was getting terrible neck and shoulder pain when we had a Tempur mattress.

We have the Emma original hybrid and their mattress protector as my husband had heard a colleague say their mattresses were hot. We haven't had any issues and we've had it since April last year.

I agree with a PP though. It's such a personal thing. I do wish you could test them before buying! It was a gamble but it paid off for us!

Apologies for the thread resurrection. I thought I'd put this here in case anyone's searching MN for info on Emma mattresses...

Do not buy a mattress from Emma. A useless company without any customer services (it's impossible to speak to anyone and they do not reply to emails). They left our children without beds when they missed their delivery window - we'd arrange for the old beds to be collected by a charity after the delivery window would have ended.

Only after that did they tell us it would be a further 4-week delay. Absolute charlatans - avoid at all costs.

We ended up buying a Simba mattress that arrived the next day and is really really good - try them instead.

Movinghouseatlast · 28/11/2023 16:10

No, no, no and no some more.

Like sleeping on a brick. I ended up spending £200 on a topper for it. I don't know why I didn't send it back, I'm an idiot.

Davros · 28/11/2023 22:59

I love them and had good customer service. They will give you a free topper if you find it too hard

It gave me backache for a good few weeks. I would have sent it back but I just couldn’t cope with the process - I had a new baby and had just moved into a house that needed a load of work!

It’s comfy now I’ve got used to it.

NectarinesAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 28/11/2023 23:03

I have an Emma, and have loved it, but now (after a few years) it has dipped where we sleep. I’m trying to get it replaced.

Oh I didn’t realise it was an old thread!!

Hated it sent it back.
I have memory with cool gel from JYSK.. you can lay on them in shop.. this was half price at £350 .. usually £700.. had it two years so this one probably gone up.. l have Fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis and previous broken hips and pelvis and its the best mattress I've ever had.. my sister bought one too ( she has hernia disc and sciatica.
Can't praise it enough but they have many to choose from.
