Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone out there has ever been on the waiting list for Davenant School (or knows someone who has)? the wait lists came out today and although all years will have different patterns of movement I’m wondering whether we’re in with a shot.
Thanks

@LuckyVal how did you get on? We are considering this school but aren’t that close, though I know children have got in from our area in the past.

How far away do you live?

LuckyVal · 17/06/2022 07:02

@turquoisebuttons I actually live really close, about a 7 minute walk away. The admissions criteria for Davenant however is based on church attendance for the past 7 years, so distance has very little to do with it. We’re currently 4th on the waiting list so still not sure which way it will go for us. 🤞🏼

Schools like Davenant usually know how many students they can take from the waiting list and don’t put children on if they are really unlikely to get a place. As the HT of our local grammar school said to me ‘if I give your daughter a waiting list place, she will get in’.

Oh I see! We actually do attend church so we’re hoping to get in under the 7 years church attendance requirement. Which I think is then broken down further by distance.

Presumably if you’re 4th on the waiting list though, they’ve already offered to either almost everyone (or even everyone) who meets the church criteria, no matter how far away they live. So that’s promising for us I guess.

Good luck, hope you get a space!

@turquoisebuttons Yes, hopefully you will. Our church attendance is good, there’s just a couple of years where I couldn’t/didn’t list as weekly attendance. I should imagine I’m probably one of, if not the closest based on out attendance score.

If I could give anyone advice it would be to avoid Davenant foundation school in Loughton. It lives off its former reputation.

My child goes there still because they are happy within their peer groups and doesn't want to change a few years in but honestly, it just lives off its former glory. So much racism has been witnessing with minimal consequences.

The head has lost his head and has gone into mass authoritarian mode, he plays this ridiculous lovely happy persona on open days but wait to they start that disappears all he cares about his uniforms, strict rules and how it appears to look from the outside. The children's wellbeing is absolutely bottom of the list!!

Meanwhile they barely have consistent teachers the kids education is suffering terribly. The teachers bar a handful speak and treat the children atrociously.
He's turned off the reviews on Google because so many current parents are incredibly unhappy.

They punish good children for being late, as harshly as they would a child who hit another or was racist to another. They take them out of their classes ALL day to sit in a room with other students isolation but call it reflection. It is modern day prison includes no breaks and no lunch. Involves reading workbooks completely missing education because discipline is number one on the list!

My other two will NOT be going Davenant id rather Roding. I regret sending my child and so many others do too you just won't get to see the truth because they block it.

The school also highly supports and fundraises for Israel. Mr Thorn should resign he's not fit for purpose.
