Has anyone come up with something other than a plant or bunch of flowers to send their mum or equivalent special lady please?

I've been looking but can't find anything.

Budget is £20-25 for one and £30-35 for another.

The flowers I have seen are lovely but they don't last more than a couple of weeks. I want something different to flowers or plants but have a mental block.

No toiletries, jewellery, books, candles.

Both ladies are 86. TIA.

Thank you. Nothing suitable there so far but I appreciate the suggestions. It is a hard one. Would prefer something that lasts more than a few days and tbh flowers feels lazy at the moment.

I got my mum a personalised Emma Bridgwater mum. So pleased with it.

I got my gran a light bed jacket because she likes sitting up in bed reading.
I got my mum a magazine subscription. They do them for different lengths of time at different prices

Afternoon tea in a box that posts through the letterbox from Marks & Spencer.

Summer sun hat, John Lewis would be a starting point.

Some food treats sent via an Ocado delivery, smoked salmon, naice ham, biscuits, fancy jam.

A book? Nice cup/ tea pot? Nice throw for over their legs? Shopping bag/ trolly?

LollyLol · 18/03/2022 06:36

In the past I've gone with:

  • a pretty lightweight scarf
  • nail polish in a pretty colour, if they have someone to help apply it (older ladies love a home manicure i.m.e.)
  • a basket with spring flowers that can sit on the front doorstep
  • a planter with fresh herbs in

Tbh the thing they love most is to see you, if it's possible to visit. A little pot of primulas and a Victoria sponge cake then goes down a treat.

There is a good selection of dried flowers around now, I have just ordered some as they look pretty but not as wasteful as cut flowers, and I can’t keep plants alive!

We are getting our mum a voucher to go for afternoon tea .

Trinacham · 18/03/2022 08:16

We're doing an afternoon tea at home for one mother (hamper is delivered)

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 18/03/2022 08:18

I once got my mum a personalised note book. She loves it.

FearlessSwiftie · 18/03/2022 10:07

Mother's day video and a restaurant voucher or a gift card or tikets are our usual go-to. Think family related things, too, like photo albums or digital photo frames with a family slideshow playing, etc.

tickets*
ugh

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/03/2022 10:09

A throw? My MIL is pretty much chair bound now and loved hers.

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 18/03/2022 10:13

Things I've given in that budget have been:
Nice scarf - Powder
Perfume - m&s
Lunch out,
Cotton shopping bag with matching key ring and umbrella - Radley sales.
Jigsaw,
Spring bulbs in an outdoor tub.

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 18/03/2022 10:15

Just thought of another one- cinema tickets if there is a classic on? Perhaps not the latest Jurassic Park though 😆

NeedleNoodle3 · 18/03/2022 10:50

I bought my mum a dressing gown.

ThatsNotMyMuffin · 18/03/2022 10:58

I make crochet flowers and bouquets have been very popular this year so maybe something like that? No maintenance, they last for ages and nice to look at all year round.

Other than that we've done pottery painting.

MaryB90 · 18/03/2022 11:13

Voucher for a pedicure or a manicure

SunshineCake1 · 18/03/2022 17:25

Last year I got my Mum (87) a personalised cup and saucer - not for her house as she doesn't like more stuff but to keep in ours so she can have a nice cup of tea when she comes to stay as she doesn't like mugs.
