Newcastle restaurant recommendations

I have booked to go to the theatre royal but I haven’t lived in Newcastle since pre-pandemic so I don’t know what restaurants are still there. Foodie but not too pricey. Any recs?

Peace & Loaf, without a shadow of doubt,
My all time favourite restaurant in the whole UK. Was there last week for the tasting menu.
Sensational!

What kind of food do you like and what do you consider as ‘pricey’

I would go to Sushimerollin if you like sushi as it’s close by.

Panis Italian next to the theatre is lovely, Peace and Loaf is lovely too but it's not that near as its in Jesmond. French Quarter is our new fave and that's in the railway arches next to Central Station so walkable to the theatre.

This place (Bistro 46 ) had great reviews

Or this this looked fab. We have a long planned trip up past Newcastle so I have been trying to note good restaurants en route.

I had this as a possible on my itinerary too but possibly also too far out to combine with theatre trip.

I'd go to either Fat Hippo Underground or Nadon Thai.

Fat Hippo is next door to the theatre and does amazing burgers with vegan options and guest burgers. Try the PB&JJ, it's a burger with chilli jam, bacon jam, and peanut butter which sounds vile but it works. They do these beer battered cheese balls too which are so good. I can also recommend the skushie cocktails as they're basically pure alcohol.

Nadon Thai is on Mosley Street, just a short walk downhill to where Grey Street meets Dean Street. It's fairly small but it's a family run Thai restaurant and has the best Pad Thai I've had for a long time, the massamun curry is also delicious and it's very reasonably priced too.

Thanks for great ideas. @ChillinwiththeVillains just to let you know I think Bistro 46 looks like it’s shut but the owners have a similar offering somewhere else.

Oh that’s a shame. I’ll Google and update the wish list. Thank you.

Dabbawahl or pleased to meet you might have a pre-theatre menu? It depends what time your show is and how fast you walk/early you want eat!

Hibou Blanc

If you like Greek, Kafenion is lovely.

Avoid Ask Italian like the plague.
