Council tax

Do you pay monthly or pay a chunk off? Dh about to get a small bonus- couple of hundred- our council tax bill arrived yesterday and it's of course gone up. Were debating paying a few hundred to it now to power the monthly payments rest of the year. Or save the money for gas and electricity 🙄 and pay monthly council tax.

I pay it by DD over 10 months and use the two 'free' months to pay for Christmas.

I would be saving the bonus money for a rainy day

I didn't know you could pay a chunk to it like that;
I would keep the money 'in hand' for now though.

I wouldn't pay in advance and pay over 12 months as that means I know exactly what's going out.

I'd save it for the ever increasing bills.

Depends how good you are at managing money.

If you know you can keep it in your account and not spend it, do that. However if you think it might just get frittered away, yes pay a chunk off now.

PPCD · 15/03/2022 23:27

I can't see any benefit to paying it up front

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/03/2022 23:30

Keep it in your account rather than in the council's account is my way of thinking.

Viviennemary · 15/03/2022 23:35

I agree the over 10 months is the most convenient way to pay. I would never pay off a chunk. No point.

Hisea · 15/03/2022 23:37

You don't pay interest so I'd pay it monthly and then keep the money yourselves in savings
