Birthday Party Help

This is all new to me so I could do with opinions, please.

My son is having his first proper birthday party. His birthday is on Good Friday.

Therefore, would it be better to hold it the weekend before or the weekend after (as I imagine a lot of families will be away for Easter).

And, how long should I give for them to respond to the invitation? Two weeks? I need to confirm numbers and food options.

I feel ridiculous asking, I really do, but I've no idea! Thanks.

I would say the week before. My children have their birthdays a few days before Christmas and usually in the Easter holidays. I used to send invitations out 6 weeks in advance on the basis that if sent too late people have so much going on in those times.

For the Easter holiday child we usually had parties on the actual birthday except when that fell on the bank holiday weekend then it was before or after.

Hope party goes well

Sorry I meant the party the week before Easter not invitations the week before the party-that would be a bit late

Is he school age? If so, when is the school holiday? The Easter weekend is the end of ours, so a week before is middle if the holiday. If its in the middle of yours, the weekend before would be fine.

When are your Easter hols? I'd imagine that will also determine people's availability so I'd try and avoid those if possible.

I wouldn’t hold any parties during the school holidays if you’re sons at school. People go away, have plans/childcare in place or forget. I’d do before the holidays or after.

Easter is right in the middle of the school holidays for us.

He will be 6. Year 1. First party due to covid and I feel completely overwhelmed trying to plan it.

I realise how pathetic that makes me sound 🤣

It'll be the weekend right at the beginning, or the weekend at the end. Not during the week.

Yep move the birthday away from the holidays- and id send invites out 2 wks before.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/03/2022 08:20

Think you’ll lose people either side- my daughters august birthday party will be in July, people go away the minute that last school bell rings

How had I not considered this?

See, this is why I need Mumsnet!

30th could be a winner. Thank you!

Not in the holidays, week or weekend. Invites two weeks before. My kids are august, we always had their parties before school broke up for summer.

No it doesn't! It's one of my kids' birthdays next week and it will be the first time they've been able to have a celebration since 2019! I'm also feeling a bit out of practice Smile

I did a party for my daughter easter weekend once and hardly anyone could come so always try and avoid it and school holidays now.
