DS1 is upstairs on the laptop, DS2 is upstairs on a tablet, is there an app I can use to send a message from my phone to a specific device to save me shouting again and again? Am I missing a really simple solution?

Text them?

TheCanyon · 12/03/2022 20:17

What kind of laptop/tablet?

FuzzyPuffling · 12/03/2022 20:18

Go the non tech route,. A loud bell.

Figgyroller · 12/03/2022 20:18

Alexa is good for this. You can shout into your own Alexa or use an app to 'announce' to all.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 12/03/2022 20:18

Do you have alexa? You can send an announcement.
Presume google home may do the same
Or turn off the wifi and they will be down quick then!!

HelgaGPataki · 12/03/2022 20:18

Alexa broadcast function does that if you happen to have any Alexa devices upstairs?

PourSomeLove · 12/03/2022 20:20

We have amazon echo dots in almost every room and use the ‘announce’ function. We used to text. I refuse to shout and they wouldn’t hear me anyway.

beautifullight · 12/03/2022 20:31

Sounds like I need an Alexa then!
The tablets are android WiFi enable, they also use my old phone with no sim. I'm sure there must be a solution that doesn't require new devices though.

You can install WhatsApp for Web on the laptop and I assume also on the tablet.

I have been using it on my laptop for months.

beautifullight · 12/03/2022 20:42

I'd rather the DC not have access to all my WhatsApp messages

They wouldn’t need to if they have their own log ins on the laptop/iPad.

LightSpeeds · 12/03/2022 20:47

Discord?

beautifullight · 12/03/2022 20:49

I thought Whatsapp requires a phone number? I only have 1 number. DCs don't have mobiles yet.

I think your might be, but it's not technology related. Why do you need to keep shouting up at them?

CamsPaisleyCuffs · 12/03/2022 20:55

Switch the WiFi router off. They'll be downstairs in 5 minutes to tell you t'internet isn't working.

Yes, this! 🤣
LYSHB · 12/03/2022 20:59

Alexa is perfect for this :D

beautifullight · 12/03/2022 21:01

I used to disconnect individual devices from the WiFi at bedtime but sometime it would take ages for them to notice!

If you got a free SIM and set up WhatsApp on am old phone you could then install WhatsApp for Web on each. I think the new version does not require the phone to be on.

I have actually done this. Wasn't feeling well. Didn't want to climb the stairs. Dd upstairs with headphones on. Called her for dinner twice, no movement. Turned wifi off, she was down in less than a minute.

I would suggest Discord, have a family chat on there. They will each need their own log in though. Or theres a pc app called Mumble which does this, but you have to be logged in and it only works across pcs I think
