Smelly bag advice

Hi,

Looking for some advice about getting a smell out of a bag! I had a meal in my work bag the other day and it burst a bit, leaking some green pesto out in to the bag. I’ve chucked stuff out of the bag, wiped it all down and sprayed it with stuff but the smell is still so overpowering - it’s so strong and quite minging. The back is a waterproof Rains rucksack that I rely on for work so I can transport my laptop in the bad weather (don’t drive) and it was expensive so I would really like to get it sorted if possible. It can’t go in the washing machine. Any ideas for home remedies that could maybe get the bad smell out? Thanks.

Bicarbonate of soda absorbs smells. Either sprinkle some in there and leave it all weekend before hoovering out or put an open tub of it in there, maybe with some aromatherapy oil drops in the bicarb, then zip the bag closed for the weekend.

Try sprinkling bicarbonate of soda in it, then shake/vacuum it out after a few hours.

Zoflora is great for getting rid of vomit smells so would probably work. Make a weak solution and pick a fragrance you like so it doesn't smell too like a bathroom!

I'd stick it in the washing machine anyway, use some Dettol wash stuff in with it, and then wash it again with some nikwax re waterproofer stuff. Better that than chucking it out.

Activated charcoal

Thanks everyone, I have some bicarbonate of soda so I think I will try that first Smile

Pet vomit/pee etc. remover has enzymes that remove organic substances and their smells.

Or white vinegar.

Cat litter left in for a while.
