Hi I have a 2. 5 year old that seems to be very delayed and I'm really worried I find myself crying most days, as it's very lonely at home with him as he can't communicate or doesn't understand anything I say, has anyone any positive stories

No positive story here but in the exact same boat as you except mine(same age) understands everything I or others say but just wont talk...He says a few words here and there but not consistent at all. He's on the NHS wait list for SALT. Makes me sad but there's literally nothing I can do as we both DH and I try our best but its out of our hands now. Has your DC been assessed yet?

Hi he's been referred but not seen yet he goes to speech and language, I'm just really really worried at this stage, him not being able to communicate is awfull

I can resonate...especially when you see other kids even younger talking. Its hard but try not to worry. The fact that he's seeing a SALT now means you're on the right track. I too would love to hear some success stories to give me some hope.

Same if he could understand what I'm saying I wouldn't be as worried as I am, he has started babbling recently and pointing and waving but it's not consistent if you know what I mean, he seems very frustrated because he just pulls me to where he wants to go

My ds was like this and I taught him sign language. He went to speech therapy and one day a car pulled up next to me. It was his speech therapist who just wanted to tell me how much better he was doing.

@AngryPrincess I didn't think about sign language. I may look into this, thanks

@Frankie2007 My son often gets frustrated as well, cuz he just cant express how he feels and tells us what he wants...like yours he pulls us to everywhere and babbles, points and gets really worked up when we cant understand what he wants...Its so draining I cant lie. The funny thing is the boy is brilliant and has always been, walked at 10 months and hit all his milestones way before his time but its just the talking...

Teacher of the Deaf here. Have you had a hearing test? It's really important even if it just rules out hearing loss.

Signing is wonderful. There are some great first signs books that you can get to learn some signs together. It really helps ease frustration.

Yeah my son actually has his hearing test on Tuesday cuz they wanted to rule this out. I doubt anything is wrong with his hearing though but you never know and its not like he can speak to tell me something's wrong.
