Disguise Ideas

I am going to surprise a friend, who doesn't know that I'm going to be at her weekend away. I've decided to go in disguise 🥸. I have bought a wig that is very different to my own hair, I have clothes and shoes that she has never seen, and I've got dark glasses. I can put on a dodgy foreign accent. I'd love to do a social media trick or something similar to make the most of it. Any suggestions for a delightfully devious deception?

Oh my god this is a terrible idea!
You MUST do it and report back Grin

Justkeeppedaling · 09/03/2022 18:16

If you did that to me I'd absolutely hate it. Are you sure she likes practical jokes?

SailingNotSurfing · 09/03/2022 18:20

If you are slim, pad your boobs, bum and tum and make yourself look curvalicious. Wear a completely different perfume and order something unusual to drink. Or, if you could carry it off, dress as a man and chat her up.

Just whhhhyyyy does everything need to be recorded and broadcast? It’s enough for you just to show up, anything else and you’ll be making it all about you and not about her

bonfireheart · 09/03/2022 18:44

You're surprising her on her weekend away??

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 09/03/2022 18:52

Making it a surprise still won't make her sorry she never invited you in the first place Hmm

but yes, I can only echo the first poster, terrible idea and begging you to report back.

gokartdillydilly · 09/03/2022 18:52

Re social media, I didn't mean to broadcast it! I meant as part of the deception. But now you mention it... Wink

Yes, she loves a good prank! I'm only going in disguise, not plotting her assassination.

I plan to sit with my back to them, see how long it takes her to notice me with my upside-down newspaper and hiccups. Or something.

If this is an idea for one of those interminable facebook videos, the ones that go on and on and on and eventually there's a very lacklustre reveal, I beg you not to do it. If it's just you rocking up pretending to be someone else, and then saying 'hey, it's me!' to applause, then fine. If you want to make a viral video then you need to do more research. Or not make a video at all.

gokartdillydilly · 09/03/2022 19:00

Blimey you lot are miserable sods! Confused Sorry I didn't explain properly...

It is a surprise weekend away for her birthday, organised by a bunch of mates, including me, but she doesn't know I'm going to be there as I live elsewhere. I'm going to be part of the surprise.

I didn't ask, or indeed don't care if you would hate such a prank. I was asking for ideas to make it a bit more fun and original, not whether you would like it or not.

gokartdillydilly · 09/03/2022 19:04

Sigh. I will not be videoing anything, or broadcasting it anywhere. You will not have to endure any of the apparent horror

I've got nothing to suggest you haven't already thought of - but this reminds me of my now husband who asked me out, I said no, then he had a shave and a haircut and when he asked me again I said yes as I didn't recognise him Grin

Spidey66 · 09/03/2022 19:09

Wrong thread sorry

gokartdillydilly · 09/03/2022 19:10

@Spidey66

Ooh, now that's an idea! Although, I think you have commented on the wrong post!!Grin

I have a friend who did this, first time it was wonderful and then he did it about another 3 times and everyone would be all “oh Dan is here after all ha ha brilliant ok what a surprise”

Really, it’s enough to surprise her by being there. You don’t want to make the weekend about you being the amazing gift that she didn’t expect, it’s really enough just to surprise her without loads of additional dress up stuff

All right, it doesn't sound so bad now! That sounds quite nice but I'd make the disguise fairly 'light' otherwise, as she's not expecting you to be there, she might not realise for a while and it'd get awkward...

How good friends are you?
Is there a character on TV/Movie you both laugh over you can quote?

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 09/03/2022 20:54

When they all enter wherever you are meeting put your phone on silent and text her to say how sorry you are that you can't be there.

We played a similar prank on my son. His girlfriend who lived a day's travel away was coming to stay without him knowing. They always had a video chat at 7 o'clock in the evening so I met her at my mum's and she called him from there. He had no idea that she was in town and took no notice of the background behind her. It was only when I sat on the sofa next to her that he realised where she was!

Hoppinggreen · 09/03/2022 20:56

Whatever you decide to do you should definitely shave your head
That’ll surprise her

TheHoptimist · 09/03/2022 22:04

Does she really like you that much?
Could be quite embarrassing miss timing if not.

Sounds a bit limelight hogging to me.

5thnonblonde · 09/03/2022 22:16

No one looks at ppl in grubby high vis vests, maybe with some sort of bucket/tool…

With- its all about meeeee on the back of the jacket
5thnonblonde · 09/03/2022 22:20

OP how committed are you? Find out her hotel and get employed as bank staff, if you get a room key she could wake up with you standing over her

TheHoptimist · 09/03/2022 22:21

Why not get a giant cake and jump out of it?
