Doors or wheels

Are there more doors or wheels in the world

This caused a heated debate in our house over the weekend.

So what do you think?

ComtesseDeSpair · 07/03/2022 21:58

Do they have to function to count?

Summerofcontent · 07/03/2022 21:59

I would think so.
I wouldn't count a moulded door on a toy car for example, but one which opens, yes.

Doors, I reckon.

TweeBee · 07/03/2022 22:03

Surely it's got to be doors! Think of all the doors in a house - to rooms, on cupboards.

HeardleFan · 07/03/2022 22:05

There's 9 doors in the bedroom I'm in, including cupboard doors. So there must be 30 or 40 in the whole house.
We only have one car and one lawnmower with wheels which makes 8, oh and 3 bikes so 14 altogether.
Everyone in the world will have some doors but not necessarily wheels so I'm going for doors

Summerofcontent · 07/03/2022 22:06

But then think of all those toy cars

And what counts as a wheel?
Do you count fly wheels, gear wheels?

OP posts:
HeardleFan · 07/03/2022 22:10

And most cars have 4 or 5 doors so they don't make a difference.

Topbird29 · 07/03/2022 22:40

What about bicycles and motorbikes, and tuk tuks (?) - wheels, but no doors. And buses and lorries - lots of wheels, but only one or two doors....
But then..skyscrapers, hotels, other multi storey buildings..loads of doors..not many wheels

What a head fuck!

mnahmnah · 07/03/2022 22:44

Think of the amount of wheels on machinery, bikes etc. I vote wheels.

steppemum · 07/03/2022 22:46

doors.

definitely doors.

But if not doors then probably wheels

Lego wheels. So many lego wheels.

HeardleFan · 07/03/2022 23:01

So many Lego houses with doors

Dinoteeth · 07/03/2022 23:04

My guess is doors, kitchen cupboard doors alone.

However thinking of wheels Lego makes more tyres per year than any other tyre manufacturer.

AlphaAlpha · 07/03/2022 23:05

I reckon windows trump doors and wheels.

NannyGythaOgg · 07/03/2022 23:10

Someone should suggest this question to Richard Osman's House of Games - probably the only way to get a definitive answer

Gladioli23 · 07/03/2022 23:21

What about the wheels in drawer mechanisms (like in the dishwasher)? Do you think they count?

Presumably castors count?

My house has 29 doors if you count only horizontal opening doors (i.e washing machine yes, dishwasher no)

It has 36 wheels excluding things like dishwasher drawer wheels etc. (8 castors per bed, 4 on each sofa, 4 on the hoover, 2 per bike, 1 unicycle, 3 on the mower (one wide roller wheel)). If you add dishwasher drawer wheels then I think it would be more like 44.

So on that basis (plus the fact that we definitely owned at least 100 toy cars which adds to the total) I'm saying more wheels than doors.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/03/2022 23:27

43 doors in house/garden
54 wheels on cars, bikes, scooters, skates etc.

Thats before starting on toys, suitcases etc...

Gladioli23 · 07/03/2022 23:30

Omg I totally forgot suitcases! That's another 10 straight off. I don't have any wheely boxes but quite a lot of people do... So that makes it a 29:46 door to wheel ratio.

Justkeeppedaling · 07/03/2022 23:42

Has anyone thought about roller skates and skateboards? 8 wheels on each skate. Also wheelbarrows, tanks, aeroplanes, helicopters, canons, pallet trucks, supermarket trolleys, pull along shopping trolleys old ladies use

My first thought was doors, but wheels are everywhere.

CormoranStrike · 08/03/2022 07:36

As an aside, the biggest manufacturer of tyres in the world is Lego

Summerofcontent · 08/03/2022 07:40

Mind blowing

steppemum · 08/03/2022 09:50

BUT the question was in the WORLD.

So, given that many houses do not have a car, or loads of toys, or lots of machines, but presumably they still have doors?

Whitefire · 08/03/2022 10:20

I looked around the office and thought doors, but then I realised that my chair has 5 castors and my drawers 4.
So surely wheels.

I then decided that I should probably get back to work, rather than deal with this mind blower, despite the latter being far more interesting. Grin

But do the excess wheels in the developed countries outweigh the doors in developing countries? 🤔
OP posts:
Justkeeppedaling · 08/03/2022 19:14

DH says definitely wheels, so that's settled it.

I would say wheels too. I think houses in under developed countries are more likely to have wheelbarrows and bikes then lots of doors in their houses.
