If you don't have any high cupboards in your kitchen...

How do you store your plates, mugs and glasses? To me they go in the head height units. We're getting our kitchen done and I want to get rid of all the high units but I can't imagine them in the lower units, don't know why

Another one with no wall cupboards in kitchen (open plan so not much wall). All plates, pots, pans etc. in wide pan drawers. It works well.

I'm impressed you all have such big kitchens to allow for this. I need wall cupboards, the rest of the space is sink, dishwasher, washing machine, cooker!

Drawers.

If you’re feeling brave, upload a drawing / pic of your kitchen with dimensions.

I only have 1 high cupboard for glasses and everything else in low cupboards. In an ideal world if I could redesign my kitchen, I'd have big deep drawers for crockery as I think they're more practical and space savvy.

I can't think of anyone's kitchen I know who have plates etc in high cupboards!

I have no high cupboards, instead I have shelves for my plates, bowls, glasses and mugs. Glasses and mugs are stored upside down. Like this picture.

No wall cupboards here. Two tall cupboards for food. Two very wide, deep drawers for pots, pans, cutlery etc. Crockery on the top shelves of bottom cupboards. Stuff rarely used (e.g. blender) at the bottom of low cupboards. Glasses on a low shelf.

We have a huge 1m wide pan drawer just below our main stretch of work surface which holds all our day-to-day bowls, plates, mugs and glasses, as well as a huge cutlery tray which takes utensils as well as cutlery. The pan drawer swallows all our pans.

I love it, it makes life so much easier - empty the dishwasher is a doddle.

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 08/03/2022 09:40

*eta The unit has two large drawers, the bottom, larger drawer takes all the pans and upper one the plates/mugs etc.

DM has them in low cupboards. We have them in a sideboard in the living room, but that’s because we have a teeny tiny kitchen.

Woollystockings · 08/03/2022 09:41

We have no wall cupboards and only one low-level cupboard (drawers). All other under-counter space is oven, dishwasher, washing machine, under-sink. We have a floor-to-ceiling large cupboard/pantry with multiple shelves which stores everything from crockery and pans, to microwave, cookbooks, tins and packets and vegetable rack.

Our kitchen is very contemporary with no wall cabinets and we have pan drawers that we store the glasses in.

My mugs are in the kitchen, but all plates and glasses are in a dresser in the dining room. I don't have a huge kitchen, and I can't imagine how I would store everything otherwise! Plus, it means the table can be set without anyone getting under my feet and I just bring the pans etc. into the dining room to serve up.

How does this work? Do you have dividers? Do the glasses not rattle against each other? I'd be worried about them breaking as the drawer opens.
buddylicious · 10/03/2022 09:14

@Rainbowshit

No rattling glasses here. I don't know if it helps that the drawers are soft close, but it's never been an issue. I love pan drawers as you can get to everything so easily.
