Just been listening to Gabrielle give me a little more time. The lyrics came up on the screen to. I'm amazed to find 'you drive your best car in Spain' is actually you tried to convince me

@ofwarren You misunderstand. I thought the words were "hard to take", pronounced "hard to tack", in a Northern kind of way. I know now they are heart attack, but thank you for your kind suggestion of Googling. Are you always so abrupt on a lighthearted thread?

rocketmanshine · 08/03/2022 13:01

Vengaboys....daughter used to sing 'the bingo bus is comin and every body's jumpin

The absolute ultimate misheard lyrics are Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam. "Yeah... potato wave!".

The first time I watched the YouTube videos of the actual and then the misheard lyrics I was howling with laughter!

iklboo · 08/03/2022 15:06

I think some people aren't getting that this is a lighthearted misheard lyrics thread. We know what we thought it was at first is wrong. We don't need to Google anything. Hmm

MillenialInDenial · 08/03/2022 16:09

Jess Glynne is 100% singing
'I'm ready to piss, there's no denying'

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 08/03/2022 16:26

Love me some Queens of the Stone Age, but Josh Homme doesn't half mumble at times. I used to think the opening lines to No-One Knows were: -

We've got some rules to follow, they enlist in your nose.

I assumed he was high when he wrote them. However, it's actually

We've got some rules to follow, that and this, these and those.

Which admittedly makes more sense.

theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity · 08/03/2022 17:48

This thread has made me howl
Also ten year old me thought Elton John was singing 'you can rape the road but before you try' as opposed to you can break the rules in you've got to love somebody
I literally spent years wondering how and why

Best ever is a fellow MNer whose mum thought Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell was saying:

I'm going to hit the highway on a battering ram
Like a Cilla Black fan on a bike

I never sing anything else now.

ValBiro · 08/03/2022 18:21

I'm a massive Rancid fan, but I have made up most of the lyrics to their songs as Tim Armstrong's singing/growling/mumbling is fairly indecipherable #PunkRock Bit niche I know.

isthismylifenow · 08/03/2022 18:31

@pucelleauxblanchesmains

"A year has passed since I broke my nose" (message in a bottle)
😂😂
isthismylifenow · 08/03/2022 18:34

Mine is Billie Jean. For years I've sung, Billie Jean is at my door.... Where he actually says Billie Jean is not my lover.

Innatenvi · 08/03/2022 19:11

My own from when I was a child - Fleetwood Mac will never live to mash potato again.

One DC asked me to sing all the words to "Waterbus" - what's that? Eventually she hummed the tune and it was "One of Us" by Abba!

Lasting Lover by Sigala was Plastic Lover in our house.

I'm sure we have more.

Tequilamockinbird · 08/03/2022 19:18

DD used to sing 'there's somebody underground' to Girls Aloud's Sound of the underground.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 08/03/2022 20:09

The grim haberdasher cracked me up. Mine:

REM: I've got my lime, I've got my orange squash ...

Preferably sprout: hot dog, jumping frog, have a cookie 🍪

That'll be a biscuit emoji for me, then.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 08/03/2022 20:12

I meant Prefab. Bloody predictive text!

Quirrelsotherface · 08/03/2022 20:15

Olly Murs 'dear diary

Oh my..is it not dear diary?!

Quirrelsotherface · 08/03/2022 20:18

Only you can set me free
Cos I'm guilty, guilty
Guilty as a broken bee

NippyWoowoo · 08/03/2022 20:42

@Hasselhoffsheadband

You know that Lady Gaga/Ariana Grande 'Rain On Me' song?

The line isn't 'I'd rather be drunk but at least I'm alive'!

Shock
NippyWoowoo · 08/03/2022 20:55

Annie Lennox. Her song came on and my mother and I were listening.

I said to said, 'I always misheard this part, I thought she was saying 'Nomar, I love you' but before I could say the correct lyric my mother interjected 'no, it's Norman'.

butterfly990 · 08/03/2022 20:56

Bran Adams " Summer of 69"

I thought it went " had my first real sex dream, bought it at the five and dime, played it till my fingers bled". Brings a whole new interpretation to the song 🤣

ALongHardWinter · 08/03/2022 20:57

In the song 'I know him so well' by Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson, there's these 3 lines:-
But in the end
He needs a little bit more than me
More security

For years,I thought they were singing:-
But in the end
He needs a little bit more than meatballs.

NippyWoowoo · 08/03/2022 21:05

@isthismylifenow

Mine is Billie Jean. For years I've sung, Billie Jean is at my door.... Where he actually says Billie Jean is not my lover.
But the rest made sense to you? As kids we sang 'but the jail is not my son' and I still don't know haven't been bothered to Google what the hell he's saying.
ImprobablePuffin · 08/03/2022 21:05

Heat waves by Glass Animals...
Should be 'heatwaves been freaking me out'
DH sings 'eBay's been kicking me out'
I mean the clue is in the name.

I can't talk I thought the lyrics to the old classic were 'tea towels whirling through my
my-ee-eyee-ind'

Also that bloody cheerleader song. I thought it was 'ooh ah I think I found a jelly bear'

StrawberrySanta · 08/03/2022 21:30

Gabrielle "strange things are blue"
