Ah bless. I have very fond memories of my CHILDREN'S childhoods and that spotty plane! I think it was possibly quite old when they watched it tbh, I'm not incredibly ancient yet.

Ahhhh Nurse Gladys Emmanuel. Only 82.
She knew how to deal with old Arkwright!

3001signon · 07/03/2022 19:51

Yes DC watched come outside & it was an old programme then.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/03/2022 19:52

She’ll always be Nurse Gladys Emmanuel to me. Reunited with Arkwright.

Gatekeeper · 07/03/2022 19:53

"Come on Pippin...it's time to fly"- and so they did, into the ether...

KillingMeDeftly · 07/03/2022 19:54

I used to watch Open All Hours as a child and assumed Nurse Gladys was fairly "old" like Arkwright. So today when I heard she'd died I looked up when that was made. She was only in her 30s in the first series! And even Ronnie Barker wasn't that old then - he'd have been mid-40s.

But I think their characters were meant to be older.

I loved her on Come Outside as a child and Eastenders as I got older, RIPThanks

AmberGer · 07/03/2022 19:58

My ds used to watch the re-runs of come outside, it was one of his favourite programmes and whenever a small plane flew over we'd always wave incase it was Auntie Mabel and Pippin.

beverleybass · 07/03/2022 20:08

I was little in the early-mid 90s and remember watching it :)
One of those very nostalgic programmes for me so I’m very sad at the news

Awww - auntie Mabel!

My older dc's loved Pippin and I have very fond memories of watching it on VCR (it was that long ago!) with them. "Look up, look down, look all around...." it was such a sweet programme and I loved the fact auntie Mabel just popped into her light aircraft every time she wanted something!

I also saw her in an episode of Miss Marple a few years back - I think it was The Pale Horse.

RIP
Aunt Mabel
my dc loved Pippin, and her up in the plane
spotted her on Eastenders fairly recently

balalake · 07/03/2022 20:20

Thoughts for her family and all who knew her, 82 is a young age. RIP.

WhatAHexIGotInto · 07/03/2022 20:21

Come Outside was DS's favourite programme and I absolutely loved watching it with him and I loved Auntie Mabel. I wonder if lovely Linda Baron had any idea what lovely memories she made for some of us.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/03/2022 20:22

We loved Auntie Mabel and Pippin.

SartresSoul · 07/03/2022 20:26

DH and I were just discussing come outside a couple of nights ago and were talking about how wonderful Lynda Baron was, very odd. Lovely woman, loved come outside as a child.
