Hi everyone.

Im not what to make of this, if I should be worried or not as my midwife didn't say anything.

At my 20 week scan my baby's femur measurement were tiny:

What I also don't unerstand is that the baby is measuring around one week ahead

What did the person doing the scan say?

Munchcrip · 07/03/2022 19:44

She didn't comment on his measurements.

She just asked my husband and I if were small or tall babies and nodded when my husband said tall.

The baby's head and neck measurement were high at the 12 week scan too but seem to have averaged out now

Then in the nicest possible way, why do you think there's something wrong? They would have told you if there was a problem. These numbers don't make sense to us but they will to them and mustn't have been of concern.

With things like the femur, the size is so small that the centiles can vary a huge amount from just tiny human measuring error.

If they thought there was a problem, or any possibility of a problem you'd be back for further growth scans.

My dd was found to be missing part of her arm at the 20 week scan and we went back 3 times so they could check her other limbs were growing normally, even though it was very unlikely (less than 1%) that there was anything more to it than a missing hand.

I hope that is reassuring.

My little grandson had a whopping head , fat tummy and very short femurs on the scans... I won't lie, we were wondering what he would come out like...

He's ten months now, yep he has a big head (and loads of hair thankfully!) and is built like a miniature prop forward.. short and stocky. He definitely has short legs but he's fine, and hopefully they'll catch up with the rest of him eventually!
Babies vary and if they aren't worried.. don't worry!
