This may be a shockingly ignorant question to those who are in any way technically knowledgeable. Sorry!

I'm taking the kids to a caravan park in a couple of weeks. We've been before, and there is terrible reception (phone and Wifi). Is there a thing I can buy / take with me that will take the internet with me into the caravan, that I can connect to via Wi-Fi?

Yes. Three do them, wireless wifi thigymajingy. We got one for this exact same reason.

A dongle?

Or, if you have 4G capability on your iPad (i.e. if it has capacity to hold a sim card) you can use your iPad as a Personal Hotspot by buying a surfer plan (not necessarily a cheap option).

More tech-savvy people may be along soon.

Have a look on ebay for a cheap one and get a cheap data sim.

It's a mifi but get one that isn't the same network as your phone. You basically need to know what network has good coverage where you're going and get that

Bananarama101 · 07/03/2022 20:15

As others have said, can get things that act as portable Wi-Fi hubs, but they work over phone network still. So if no phone coverage, that's still not going to do much good.

Ah yes I think this is my worry. If I have phone reception, then I can use my phone as a hot spot and we're all fine. But there won't be so I can't.

Does this mean there's no help for me?

download a few TV shows before you go.

buy a deck of cards & some board games & tell the kids they have to learn to live without wifi.

jarbert · 07/03/2022 21:36

It's not for the kids, it's for me! I have an essay due and was hoping to plough some serious hours into it as they snooze in their caravan bunks.

Which caravan park is it I'm sure you can check if any mobile networks get 3G/4G there?
