Apple watch help - is it worth it?

I've been thinking about getting an apple watch, but not sure if it's worth it? I'm confused as it says the watch needs to be within 10 meters of the phone to work - but what's the point in that? If I'm within 10 meters of my phone surely I'll just look at/answer my phone? Am I missing something?

I work in a school so it would be handy to see any important notifications (obviously just a quick glance). But not if I need to be within 10 meters of my phone, that would be pointless the minute I walk out of the staffroom.

Thanks.

The round bit attaches to the watch and doesn't the other end attach to a normal iPhone plug? I assumed the round bit came with the phone and you could use the normal apple plug to charge it. If not that's more than a bit cheeky, given the price.
I didn't buy mine and got given all the bits by my brother and it's been appropriated by dd so I haven't seen it for ages so I can't remember what the plug was like now. Wouldn't kill apple to include what you actually need to use it though!

No, its not the same as my iphone. My iphone charger lead goes into a USB plug, whereas the iwatch is a USB-C.

Me again,

I can't get whatsapp notifications when I'm away from my phone. I went to get DD from a club earlier, left my phone at home. When I got home there was a WhatsApp msg from DH on my phone.

Is this a fault at my end or standard?

You should get notifications.

Check your Watsapp notification settings on your phone.

Thanks.

It's going back. Confirmed with Apple that WhatsApp notifications will not come through when the watch is away from the phone as there isn't a standalone app. So it won't really work for me, as if I've got my phone close by, I'll just use that instead. I don't really use iMessage (who does?) or calls very often, all my communication is does via WhatsApp. Luckily I have 14 days to change my mind.
