Swimming - How many lessons per stage?

Due to being unable to get regular swimming lessons sorted for my kids (they are stuck on waiting lists), I’ve took my two DCs (age 6 & 7) to a week long intensive course last Summer, in the October half term and just recently in February half term. These are small groups of just 3-4 children. Each course has been stage 1 and from what I can see, they have met all the requirements of stage 1 but as it is an intensive course, they obviously don’t get stage awards.

I’ve just booked them on another course over Easter and they have been booked on stage 1 again. Am I right in thinking they should be on stage 2 by now after 15 x 30 minute lessons?

How many lessons per stage is normal?

How much are you swimming together outside of the lessons? For stage two I’d be expecting a lot of gliding from the edge and some swimming without a float (prob not a recognised stroke). Can they do those things? I always think swimming is a bit like driving where most of the improvements happen between the lessons.

I say this as someone who didn’t swim till my 30s due to non swimming parents!
