Matching initials - is it really that bad?

DS is due really soon. We have struggled so much with a name. They only names we both like start with J. His sister's name starts with a J. Will it be too matchy matchy? There is a big age gap so can't imagine post being too much of an issue. Plus she is a Miss and he will be a Mr. Would it stop you using a name?

No, both of my kids names start with a J also. Boy and girl and haven't had a post mix up as of yet, and unlikely to.

I know loads of people who have matching initials for DC- not a problem at all.

SIL and BIL have the same initials. It was never a problem for them.

My two have different initials but most of their post comes through as Parent/Carer of Full Name or just their full name.

Both my girls have the same initials.

I think that’s fine. I might think differently if it were two girls.

Mine both have the same initial and, frankly, it’s a massive bonus using initial only name labels on hand-me-down clothes

My eldest has exactly the same initials as her Dad, including her middle initial. It was completely inadvertent, we just picked names we liked. In fact i don't think I even realised until she was in her teens and started getting her own post. DH, used to getting letters for Mr XY Avocet did fail to notice on occasion that things were in fact addressed to Miss XY Avocet and we sometimes got post for just XY Avocet with no title. DD found that quite annoying for a while. But these days I guess so much communication is done electronically it is less likely to happen, and it was an irritation not something that made me wish I'd picked different names. I don't think I would want an entire family with the same initials like you sometimes see, but i wouldn't think 2 is a huge issue.

I agree with this - also water bottles, books, all sorts of things. It's never been a problem for us.

My 4 siblings and I all have the same initials. The post thing was only a minor inconvenience for a few years during our teenage years whilst we were living at home but we didn't get that much post anyway. Most bills are now online and parcels have the full name on the label so it'll be even less of an issue.
