Selling footwear on Facebook - Potential buyer wants to try on first

I'm selling a pair of boots on FB marketplace, which were not cheap originally but they are listed for less than half price.

Someone is interested and says she would like to come to my house to try them on first. Is this normal practice? I'm a bit wary to be honest.

No!!!!!!

Do a bit of stalking. I've sold boots before and people have asked to try them first. If all good then they buy them!

PutinsMicropenis · 06/03/2022 22:30

Why would they not want to try them on? Confused

Sounds normal to me. How do they know they fit properly without trying one on quickly first?

IroningBoardz · 06/03/2022 22:38

Normal practice around here. How will she know they fit otherwise?

Mosaic123 · 06/03/2022 22:41

They can sell them on afterwards if they don't fit.

I'd be very wary of letting them into my home.

Those helpfully asking why would they she try then on first. I do get that she'd want to know if they fit or not. My concern is that I would be letting her in my home.

Anyway, I've done a bit of snooping, and she seems kosher. Has her own business and impressive CV. Probably not likely to rob me.

Do you regularly let strangers into your house to try things on before they buy?

You’d take them to the doorstep and she’d try on there I think. She might be just as wary of coming into a stranger’s house herself. With shoes you know if they fit in a few seconds and don’t need to look in mirror etc. I think it’s fine.

LottyD32 · 07/03/2022 01:43

Don't meet her at home then, meet her at McDonald's, your nearest shopping centre, library etc.

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 07/03/2022 01:56

Seriously weird eBay behaviour.

It’d be a no from me.

AmbushedByCake · 07/03/2022 02:59

I tried on some trainers I bought on FB Marketplace. Money was tight and I wasn't wasting it on shoes that didn't fit on the off chance I could sell them on again. Seems perfectly sensible.

It's not eBay it's marketplace. She'll be coming to the house to collect anyway. What difference is it to let her try them on? It's always been the done thing for shoes and jackets when I've bought or sold. Just take them to the door and let her try on there. I wouldn't want to go to the hassle of buying then having to resell.
SnowyPetals · 07/03/2022 18:48

Agree to meet somewhere public that has benches where she can sit and put them on. No need to give out your address.

Concestor · 07/03/2022 18:49

That's completely normal round here but this is a very safe area.

Yep same here, pretty standard if it's something easy to try on like shoes / a jacket to do it on the doorstep (or in my case in our apartment lobby). I wouldn't buy shoes I couldn't return without trying them on.
Bbub · 07/03/2022 19:56

I'd say no they are sold as seen, but I guess there's no harm in letting her try them on on the doorstep, although sounds awkward. Imagine she tries them on and does a runner 😂🏃‍♀️

Old thread from March this year but am in same situation Buyer asked to try on. I offered tomorrow morning but she can't make it.
