Delaying Period

Hoping someone can offer some advice.

Im due on my period the first week of a two week holiday in July and am looking at options to delay?

I have read about medication that you can take. I was wondering if instead of taking it on holiday I could take it soon and then it will alter my cycle so it will maybe alter my cycle. This way I will not be due on during my holiday? I hope this makes sense?

The only reason I am thinking of this option is because I took medication a few years ago but still had a very light period.

I know of one person who did this and her period started anyway, and she was left with hormonal problems for some time after.

I have taken Norethisterone (sp?) before for this exact reason and had no issues whatsoever. I think you'd be best discussing with your Dr if you want to change your actual cycle dates as its probably a bit of a gamble. Alternatively if you're on the pill you could just take it daily for that month, I used to do this for a few months at a time and would have no periods and no ill effects.

I did this once, and never again....
I had Norethisterone from GP, during holiday I had all the symptoms of my period, but worse than usual, but no bleeding - I was super grumpy, emotional, bloated, had cramps and stomach pains etc - wish I'd just bled for the 3 days of the holiday :(

...and when period did arrive once home is was sodding horrendous

Of course, you might react completely differently to me but I'd say if you are on a 2 week holiday then just try and cope with it?

I did this for my wedding but took it the month before to give me about 5 or 6 weeks between periods. I was bloated and moody for the 2 weeks I delayed it so I was glad I hadn't done it for my wedding. But then because my next period was the normal 28 day cycle it came at a convenient time and was normal so no more moodiness or bloating than usual. So I would recommend taking it the month before if you can.

I did this for a holiday a few years ago, didn’t want the hassle of remembering to take the tablets on holiday so did it the cycle before and moved my dates. But I am very lucky with my cycle it’s every 28 days like clockwork. My periods are also pretty light, 3-5 days max and no bad pains… definitely discuss it with the nurse at your GP practice - she was the one who recommended it to me.
