Covid lateral test.

Hi last night my partner tested positive for covid on a lateral flow test. There was a faint line, but you can see it, it came up within 10 mins of doing the test.
He has no symptoms. Today he took another test and its negative.
My 3 year old is very sick with a fever and cold. Did a lateral on him last night and it was faint too. Did one on him today and the line is very dark. So now I am confused about my partner. Has this happened to anyone else? Ordered pcr tests to be safe.

You can get false negative results on LFT.

It sounds like they both have Covid.

Yes it happened to me. One positive lateral flow, it wasn't really dark but it wasn't faint either, the line was definitely there and I did it as soon as I got up so I hadn't contaminated it with food or drink either. Every other lateral flow I did was negative (I did a couple of others same day then one a day after that). The advice at the time was to isolate anyway which I did, reported it, got contact from test and trace etc. I had mild symptoms for a few days (not the classic covid ones, had a headache, slightly sore throat etc). I'm fully vaxxed so that might have made a difference. In honesty it sounds like your partner has covid. False negatives are quite common but false positives are rare so go off the positive. It's good you have ordered PCRs and will know for sure. Guidance now is still to isolate until two negatives on day 5 and 6 (although it's not a legal requirement anymore). Best to report it on the gov.uk site too so they can track cases even though legal requirements are lifted. Hope they are both ok and you don't catch it.

Interesting. Do you think it will be picked up with the PCR test with my partner. So odd. I'm showing negative on laterals. But time will tell or when we do the pcrs.
