I've fractured my ankle and am struggling on my crutches

Hi there! I have a big black boot on to keep it immobile as I have ripped all my ligaments too. The thing I really struggling with is how much my hands and my uninjured leg hurts. My injured foot isn't too painful when kept still and I'm still on oramorp. It's my hands that are the worst, any tips please?

I bandaged a sponge cut in half over the grippy bits on the crutches. It helped a bit. After about a week I think my hands got used to the pressure.

Hope you feel better soon.

Would a knee walker help? You can hire them.

You'll get used to it, it's a massive shift in your body to walk on one leg. If you really struggle look into a knee walker. Hope you recover quickly.

Do you have a chair on wheels (like an office chair). If you have wooden floors or Lino you can use that instead of crutches.

Other than that, it’s early days, you will get better at using them.
Hope you heal quickly

Same op, fractured foot here. Black boot and crutches, my hands have been very sore with supporting my weight on the crutches. I had a day yesterday of just not moving about unless essential and hoping when I could, to rest my hands which has helped lots today.

Are you wearing gloves? My husband used padded cycling gloves when he had to use crutches for a couple of months.

You need to put tennis grip on the crutches - this one.

I've done this twice. Helps massively.

I used a Zimmer frame, the hospital gave it to me, i found it much easier.

It took me a week to get used to crutches . I was no weight baring for 12 weeks and was zipping around on them quite fast. You will find the weight baring leg settles down too within a few days .

I ended up getting a wheelchair as my shoulders were so painful and I also had issues with balance. Once I was in a boot it was much better.
