How often do you get beeped?

I’m an anxious driver who had an accident a couple of years ago and I’m currently undergoing CBT therapy for this and other anxiety issues. My homework this week is to ask people the following questions in order to get a bit of perspective:

Have you ever been beeped while driving?

If so, how often on average do you get beeped?

When you get beeped how often is it for something that was your fault?

Thank you so much!

I get beeped at the entire time! I’d find it easier to remember a journey when I wasn’t beeped! I am driving in London though and people are really impatient. Some of the time it’s my fault but I often don’t know why I’m being beeped at. I’ve started to phase it out now because it happens so much.

Couldn't even count as it's that often. Couldn't care less either, it makes me laugh when people get so wound up over driving. I just give them a smile and wave

I’ve been driving for 7 years (passed when I was 40). I’ve been beeped twice (that I know of, I usually have my music quite loud). I hadn’t been driving long on both occasions, I was in the wrong lane on a roundabout and second time, for hesitating on a roundabout. Roundabouts can be tricky for new drivers. It’s survival of the fittest.

I encounter loads of shitty driving but I try not to beep too much, it’s quite an aggressive / provocative thing to do. I tend to flash a few times, this is usually enough to convey what a dick I think the perpetrator is!

Driving 15 years. Mostly only locally now, but previously 1.5hr commute. Now only local I very rarely get beeped and it's normally someone being impatient/aggressive driving.

On motorways a few times a year, mainly because people are cheeky fuckers and don't follow the rules and then moan if you get in the way, because rudely you haven't been able to read their mind or recognise their need to get somewhere rid more important than yours.

Probably about once a month. Last month it was because I was in the middle lane of the motorway when there was no one in the slow lane and I was just on auto pilot hogging the middle lane thinking about what I was going to gave to eat when I got home.

Been driving for 32 years.
I get beeped, maybe once or twice a year
Usually it's my fault

About 10 times a day but I live in a mediterranean country where the horn is a substitute for looking, indicating etc. Sometimes it's a warning- coming through on your left! So it's also massively culturally linked.

Got beeped the other day. Short helpful pip at lights. Done that junction a millionty times before and the left hand filter lane always goes green first. I was in the right lane at the front of the queue. Left lane wasn't moving so neither was I. Pip from behind because apparently that day the priority changed and it's now right lane first!
Not often though. And I agree with a pp that it's easy to distinguish between helpful (pop!) and pissed off (hooooooonnnnnkkkk!).

I got beeped quite a lot when I first passed my test- usually at busy roundabouts for dithering too long. There’s one near me where there’s no traffic lights at the side I enter from but there is further up, so you literally have a 10 second gap between one set going red and the other going green to get on. I’m used to it now so manage fine but I got honked at a couple times there in the beginning!

I think last time I got honked at was someone annoyed I was waiting a bit to overtake a cyclist on a very windy narrow country road. No apologies for that, I’m not putting someone in danger because you’re in a rush!

Dumbledoressister · 06/03/2022 09:40

I get beeped once a fortnight and would say I beep someone that frequently too but drivers in London are quite aggressive 🤣

tiredanddangerous · 06/03/2022 09:50

I probably get beeped at once every couple of months maybe. Always by impatient idiots who think I should go through a light as it turns red or pull forward onto a hatched area at the traffic lights etc. The level of impatience and aggressive driving on our local roads really seems to have ramped up lately.

maddiemookins16mum · 06/03/2022 10:22

I’ve been driving for nearly 40 years. I’ve been beeped only a handful of times, no idea why, luck probably.
