Help!

Just remembered DS (8) has Book Day tomorrow and I literally have nothing for him to wear.

Easy improvisation required and all ideas gratefully accepted!

Old fashioned clothing - Famous Five or Secret Seven (make a badge from a button like they do in the books)
Normal clothing plus golden card - Charlie Bucket
Normal clothing plus brown medicine bottle - George of George’s Marvellous Medicine

RachelAshleyWasGuilty · 02/03/2022 20:12

Pyjamas...go as the midnight gang

nomistake · 02/03/2022 20:13

Does he have a onsie you could get away with being some kind of character - gruffalo, spiderman, pikachu?

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 02/03/2022 20:13

Most of the kids in books wear normal clothes! Just go take a look at his book shelves and I'm sure you'll find something.

Rosiepeta · 02/03/2022 20:14

Diary of a wimpy kid= cartoon face on whire card / white shirt/ black trousers and back pack
Stripy top= wheres wally or burglar Bill
A dress= The boy in a dress

AmberGer · 02/03/2022 20:14

Can he borrow a dress and go as the boy in the dress?

Hellocatshome · 02/03/2022 20:16

Pop in the shop on the way to school and buy a peach. James and the Giant Peach. Or he can just go as himself and be "boy" from out of the dictionary.

NotAScoobyToBeSeen · 02/03/2022 20:16

Sports kit seems to be a popular one in our school

Shittybobbins · 02/03/2022 20:18

Diary of a wimpy kid?

White T-shirt, black shorts, rucksack. Optional home made mask.

Or Mr Bump- blue T-shirt and raid the first aid kit for bandages

Tin man from wizard of oz? Use tin foil stick on a t shirt and perhaps make the pontes hat?
If you have a Halloween costume that may do for funny bones or room on the broom
Try to make a cloak out of an old blanket and go for a Harry Potter theme
If you have a striped t shirt or a plain white one which you could draw stripes on then you could try Wheres Wally
Oliver Jeffers catch a star boy just regular clothes and make a giant star accessory
Gruffalo if you have some brown clothes which you could adorn with prickles etc

Good luck!

chickywoo · 02/03/2022 20:20

Ben from gangster granny or any other boy character in a book that dresses in your sons usual clothing Wink that’s what we’re going for tomorrow.
Our school have been very lovely though and clearly stated please don’t feel you have to buy or make anything just wear whatever makes you happy

LadyOfMisrule · 02/03/2022 23:17

Alex Rider. Normal coolish clothes, and some pretend gadgets.

bellsbuss · 02/03/2022 23:21

Mr Bump, blue top, jeans and a bandage

Madre123 · 02/03/2022 23:30

The boy in the striped pyjamas

MyDcAreMarvel · 02/03/2022 23:34

Any of the boys from the worlds worst children.

Legoisthebest · 02/03/2022 23:41

Madre123 do you really think dressing up as a child in a concentration camp who gets (spoiler alert) gassed to death is appropriate?
This is the second time I have seen this book suggested on these WBD threads.
I often wonder how many of the books these characters being suggested are from have actually been read by either the children or their parents.
Angry

PeakyBlender · 02/03/2022 23:47

Boy in a dress. Easy

champagnetruffleshuffle · 03/03/2022 00:23

You might find a printable mask online of a character he wants to be?

Whiskersonkittens21 · 03/03/2022 00:35

Dress him in blue and wrap bandages around him and he could be Mr Bump?

RicherThanYew · 03/03/2022 00:50

White shirt/polo shirt, denim jacket/blue hoody or sweater, slicked back hair, and you've got Begby from Trainspotting. Rentboy would be easier to source but you'd never get away with that.

constantindigestion · 03/03/2022 00:58

Print out some fake money/ use Monopoly money and go as billionaire boy

navydear · 03/03/2022 01:29

Soccer jersey, shirts and football socks...easy, he's his favourite soccer player who I'm sure will have an autobiography out there so that covers the book part

navydear · 03/03/2022 01:32

@Legoisthebest children do learn history you know. Just because it makes people uncomfortable to hear doesn't mean that we have to ignore our awful past. It's much too important. Kids don't need to be wrapped in cotton wool and shielded from the world

Legoisthebest · 03/03/2022 01:39

navydear yes children do learn history. My daughter's class read The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas in Year 6. It was a hard book for them to read. Very emotional. I just think a child wanting to dress up as a concentration camp victim is a bit sick.

Leilala · 03/03/2022 02:08

Football kit… booked about most of the players now

Or

Guinness world record holder…. Even wear gaming hoody etc. with headphones or something? Some records for gaming Wink
