Would you go on/book a holiday right now?

Hi,

We have two booked for April and May. One weekend break in France and a weeks holiday in Spain.

In all honesty, I've lost all excitement and actually all I feel now is fear. If it wasn't for our dd, I'd seriously consider cancelling, but they've been looking forward to these breaks for years now.

I can't imagine that things won't have escalated a lot by then and the last thing I'd want is to be getting on a plane and being away from home.

Anyone else feeling this?

I have a few holidays planned this year (Majorca, France, Greece). I am struggling to feel excitement for them as yet, due to them being quite far off and who knows what might happen? But I will definitely be going unless there appears to be any indications at the time that it would be unsafe to do so.

DameHelena · 02/03/2022 11:40

Depends where. I was thinking about going somewhere in the Baltics this summer. Would still love to, but I'm not sure it's a good idea.

BlueSpottedGiraffe · 02/03/2022 11:42

Yes, going to New York in 2 weeks.

I would still go to France and Spain.

GreenClock · 02/03/2022 11:48

Anxiety is a sod. You have my sympathy OP.

Would it help to think that you’d be supporting the hospitality/tourism sector in those countries post lockdowns?

AnnPerkins · 02/03/2022 11:52

@AnchorWHAT

I am a bit worried as we are meant to be going to Hungary, (Budapest) Prague and Vienna in a couple of weeks. DH not worried unless gov travel status changes but it has taken the shine off a little for me. Also irrational guilt about going on holiday when nearby country is suffering so much.
I've booked a short break in Prague for me and DS beginning of April. At the moment I think if it is possible to go we will. I won't feel guilty because we will be contributing to their economy, everywhere needs that at the moment.
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/03/2022 11:56

I’ll go on the ones we’ve already booked.

I won’t be booking any more for a while.

I agree op, the excitement has gone for me right now.

TomAllenWife · 02/03/2022 12:06

God yes, already been away twice this year and got another 4 booked

If it escalates then we'll all be dead and holidays won't matter anyway

balalake · 02/03/2022 12:11

I have done, but not until July.

seekinglondonlife · 02/03/2022 12:16

Yes most definitely, unless Ukraine or bordering countries.

DetailMouse · 02/03/2022 12:44

I'm not going anywhere outside UK for the foreseeable. I think if things do escalate it will happen very quickly. Even if violence doesn't spread this far west (and I don't think it will) I can see travel becoming difficult and I've no desire to get caught up in that.

bagelsandcheese · 02/03/2022 13:24

I've got one booked from two
Years ago. i wish I wasn't going tbh. I feel safer at home in my own surrounding should things escalate. I will of course go if we are allowed and everything is fine as my children are looking forward to it.

fussychica · 02/03/2022 15:55

Several trips booked over the next few months. Looking forward to going, not fearful but it does feel odd thinking about going away when all this is going on.

namechangeanonymous · 02/03/2022 16:12

Yep and am counting the days my body needs a week in the sun and to feel waves crashing on my feet

sleaf · 02/03/2022 16:16

Cape Verde booked for a few weeks time, our first overseas holiday in 3 years because of unemployment and Covid....was really looking forward to it, but given the world situation I'm now really worried Sad

ExConstance · 02/03/2022 16:18

We are off to Madeira for our first break since the pandemic in May. Of course we are going and I'm looking forward to it very much. We might do something Long haul in Central America later in the year.

RunningFromInsanity · 02/03/2022 16:24

Going France tomorrow. Can’t wait.

peboh · 02/03/2022 16:24

Yes I would. The only holiday we've got booked that we are watching closely and will consider cancelling with a moments notice is a Baltic cruise in September.

CheltenhamLady · 02/03/2022 16:31

Definitely, off to Italy for Easter, Greece in May and a cruise in September. Unless we are told not to travel then we will be going.

goldensilver · 02/03/2022 16:33

After everything that has happened (and is happening) in the last few years, I have started to develop a "fuck it" attitude.

I also suffer with anxiety but if you look at the absolute worst case scenario that we all get nuked then I do think we just have to live life to the absolute fullest now. Do everything you want to do. Don't put things off. This is what everyone in end of life care always says.

goldensilver · 02/03/2022 16:35

I also think that unless you're planning on travelling to Ukraine itself, there aren't many countries that you will be more at risk than the UK.

MajorCarolDanvers · 02/03/2022 16:36

I would go away tomorrow if I could.

In the meantime I have a holiday booked for Lanzarote in June and the US in October and am looking forward to both tremendously.

MissAmbrosia · 03/03/2022 16:28

I have a week booked in May and am very much looking forward to it. I am slightly nervous as we plan to leave dd 18 at home for a week for the first time - bad enough thinking of potential parties/fires/falling down the stairs sort of thing. My anxious mind had not allowed for sudden nuclear war. Still, she'd probably prefer to be with her friends should the worst happen.
