Replacement fencing - how much?

A neighbour has been quoted nearly £2k to replace 3 panels and 4 fenceposts after the recent storms. This seems really expensive. How much would you expect to pay. It would just be normal fence panels, nothing special.

I've just been quoted £730 for 4 fence panels and 4 posts 6ft high

Maggiesgirl · 25/02/2022 15:48

£1500 for 12 panels and 13 posts. That's without labour as DH is doing it himself

BarbaraofSeville · 25/02/2022 15:52

A lot more than a few months ago. DP went to B&Q to buy timber this morning for some other DIY project in the house.

He came back woodless and chuntering about 'not paying that fucking much'.

1.2k 5 new panels with gravel boards, 7 new concrete posts, that's material, labour and removal/disposal of old fence. Hedgehog hole to be cut on gravel board too. Grin

toldgoodDog · 25/02/2022 16:02

My DH does fencing, max £200 per panel including all materials and labour. Possible extra £100 for waste removal, so a total of £700.
£2000 extreme rip off unless it's some sort of highly specialised gold plated fencing.

uptonogoode · 25/02/2022 16:04

We paid 1000 recently for a brand new picket fence, 15 panels of it, posts, concrete and waste removal

fussychica · 25/02/2022 16:33

I saw an ad on our local Facebook page full height featherboard fencing £100 per metre, fitted.

ThoseFestiveLights · 25/02/2022 16:36

It really depends on the type of posts and panels. I don’t think what you’ve quoted is terrible for proper panels and concreted slotted posts. But it would be too much for poor quality panels and wooden posts.

Frankie473 · 25/02/2022 16:45

We had the same from 2 companies. Went with another who charged £700

Maggiesgirl · 25/02/2022 16:48

The panels we have ordered are double slated ( Hit and Miss type) as we live on top of a hill with a open Plain behind us that the wind whips over. Concrete posts and post crete to put them in with.

Whydidimarryhim · 25/02/2022 16:56

I had a quote to replace 5 panels and re cement 2 posts - £300 - the fencing cost £300 so £600 - I’d get a few more quotes.
Do you have a NEXT DOOR local group - they have local people recommended by others.
Your quote sounds a lot.

caringcarer · 25/02/2022 17:34

Always get 3 quotes.
