Amazon Echo dot or Show?

I have recently posted asking about what to get for Alexa etc now done lots of looking into it and I think I’m a bit more clued up! So basically I want to know whether it’s wort splashing out a bit extra to get a show, I wouldn’t really use it for video calling but think it would be hand for displayed reminders, recipes etc. I had sort of persuaded myself to go for the show but now I see there’s a 5 and an 8 which one to go for is confusing me again?! Then I find myself thinking or should I just go for the 4th gen dot as I wouldn’t need show for video calling. The better sound quality of the show sounds good though, is it a big difference in sound quality compared to the dot? What have you got and what would you recommend?

I have a show and a dot. Sound is pretty much the same.
The show is great for recipes and doubles as a digital photo frame with the amazon screensaver.

I've got all sorts over the house depending on what I need where. I have an older gen Show in a spare room/crafting/office so I can watch videos if need be. I do occasionally video call from that but prefer to use WhatsApp. I can also use it to watch what's happening via my Ring doorbell without using my phone.

I have an elderly Dot in the lounge to operate lights, ask questions, set timers, call friends and family and so on. The sound quality is very good.

I have a Flex in the bedroom and in the kitchen for timers, radio, alarms, voice calling, questions about the weather, controlling lights or what have you.

Hope that helps but, in other words, you don't necessarily need the brand new spec. My Dot is five years old, my Show four and the Flex within the past 18 months. They're all great!

I think k 5 and 8 are the sizes in inches. We've got a show and an ordinary Alexa. The show is good as it can show the song lyrics and recipes. Also it will play Amazon prime shows.
