World Book Day - help!

Bbq1 · 24/02/2022 17:33

I work in a school and we are all dressing up for World Book Day as a literary character the children will (mostly) know. I don't really want to be paying out £30+ for an outfit I will wear once a year at most. If anyone has any ideas for an easy to make homemade outfit it would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

I realise you are asking for yourself but I know adults who also wear onsies of various descriptions. Including characters.

I'm going as Worzel Gummidge. Partially shredded brown paper for straw (leaving an unshredded band to attach to cuffs etc), plaid shirt with string round waist, trousers tucked into boots with more 'straw' poking out, battered hat, more 'straw'.

Oh god I work in a school in an office role and apparently this year it would be "fun" for the office staff to join in, in a team costume. I wasn't in today, tomorrow I find out what costume plans are...

Could you go as a golden ticket from Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory? You can buy a golden ticket costume, or just get a big bit of card (ask your school office if they have a big box from a delivery you can take), paint it gold/yellow, write "GOLDEN TICKET" in black on it and add ribbons to tie it on. Dress in black underneath.

Farmer Duck. Although I Think farmer fuck would be more interesting

The little boy from The Snowman? Striped pyjamas, dressing gown and slippers! Leave work and go straight to bed 😁 Perfect!

Agree with looking at what you have already....

Stripey top as the basis of Where's Wally
Basic top/cardi/long skirt - Gangster Granny (just need wig and eye mask)
A dress that you could style into a character?

I'm trying to usher my youngest towards Princess Pearl from Zog because she's already got most of the stuff. Nice dress, tiara, doctors coat and stethoscope. Maybe a cuddly dragon.

Last year I was really blessed when a school sent a photo of a pupil who had purchased a green t shirt and put my books onto them. It was amazing.

Arthurflecksfacepaint · 28/02/2023 10:08

I want to read Farmer Fuck.

Black skirt and jacket, white shirt and tie = any school based novel. Hiking trousers, long sleeved T-shirt, hiking Jack and wellies, any farmer!
