Just looking up some old chums. Nearly all are super duper successful, we are talking BAFTAs, millions, fashion designers, even the girl at work that seemed so Dopey.
What am I not doing that they do?!! Help needed!

Comparison is the thief of joy!

Ie. Their life may not be all glamour and glitz. You don’t if they are happy, in successful relationships, infertile, been abused etc.

I know.. I just made some massive cock ups when I got pregnant and somehow have never recovered from them. Hormones, eh!

Ok, next ( or better) question..how do I recover from massive life impacting cock ups? Think selling lovely flat, losing direction…!

One foot in front of the other. Keep going. You don't kniw whats around the corner

topcat2014 · 23/02/2022 08:14

They're probably on drugs.

SnakeLinguine · 23/02/2022 08:16

@topcat2014

They're probably on drugs.
Or they’ve just worked very hard in a targeted way while the OP admits to losing her way and making some poor decisions?

Seriously though, I think of Paddy McGuinness. High profile TV work, but also working away from his autistic kids etc.

Life is not what you see online.

Mol1628 · 23/02/2022 08:44

Are you seeing this on social media? If so you’re only seeing the highlights! Bet they have the same amount of crap to deal with as everyone else

I wouldn’t say no to the wealth but do you actually want to be a fashion designer or win a BAFTA, or do you just want some tangible token that is shorthand for “success”?

Every 5 years or so I like to write myself a little life plan of what my ideal life would look like in 5 years time, then from that an action plan bullet list of the actions to take to achieve it. As I’ve got older, the career and money and tokens of success stuff have dropped off - it’s all meaningless really - and it’s been more about leisure time, nature, time with family, etc, and how I can achieve that, and that’s how I’d define success.

Not everyone can hit gold or win awards: I bet not everyone in your peer group has, but you’re only looking at the ones who have. And if you still want those measures of success, focus on the creation not the outcome. The person who won a BAFTA got there not because their goal was to win, but because their goal was to create something. I know a lot of people who want to have written a book because it seems cool to have one on the shelf in Waterstones, but not a lot of people who want to go through the process of writing a book, because slogging away at a laptop in addition to a day job isn’t actually that fun unless you really really believe in and enjoy your craft.

Thanks. Yes bafta boy worked very hard and very targeted at something he loves. I guess he told his gf he wouldn’t want kids so that’s hard on her.
Trouble is I don’t have the tokens of success, though I do have skills. And I did show the promise. I am now older and don’t have the family either. Bro doesn’t like Dp, and has his own problems, mum has dementia. We moved miles from my old mates and I have a couple of new ones but it’s very isolated here. And boring tbh. Maybe I should take the sertraline! Sorry, bit mis.
