I will obviously be contacting the GP tomorrow.
DD is 6, tested +ve for covid on 24th January, didn’t test negative at all. I tested +ve 5 days later (29th) and was released on day 6 (DDs day 11) so we went out then but even on Day 11 DD was +ve.
She had covid quite bad, high HR, really struggled with her breathing, lost her appetite and refused to drink anything but orange squash or juice (the from concentrate stuff) through a straw with ice cold water. GP was monitoring her and she was borderline to be admitted, we did end up in A+E but she wasn’t admitted, though did have a few hours monitoring.
She still occasionally spikes a minor temperature but the GP told me to only keep her inside while she has the temperature or feels unwell, otherwise to carry on as normal as it would help her recover.
She hasn’t regained her appetite. Some days she has a bite of toast or a sandwich and declares herself full. Bribery isn’t working – offering her pudding anyway gets her refusal. I even stopped tablet and TV time thinking she was trying to rush off to use/watch them but it didn’t help.
She still refuses to drink water, will drink squash, juice or milk, but it’s causing issues at school as they will only let her have plain water so she’s often going 8am-5pm (Some days she’s at wraparound) on just a cup of juice or squash from the morning – I tried sneaking flavoured water into her bottle but she got caught (couldn’t keep her mouth shut to her friends) and it got confiscated and she was given plain water in its place.
She’s visibly lost weight.
She’s on the small side anyway, 113cm and pre-covid was borderline underweight at 21.6kg, she’s now 20.6kg so lost a kg which is a lot when you’re already small.
She has always until she had covid loved food, I could never leave sweets or biscuits on my desk in the living room as they’d be gone. She was always a big lover of water as well. She was never fussy really bar the usual loving something one week then hating it the next and vice versa.
She complains of tummy pain, not all the time just intermittently. Says it really hurts, but then it goes away.
She seems to be using the toilet less than normal. That’s why I suspected constipation.
But she’s generally exhausted. So I did wonder if maybe long covid instead due to the lack of appetite as well.
She’s grumpy, argumentative and just unhappy. I really want my happy little girl back.
In case it’s relevant other conditions she has:
- Asthma
- Developmental Delay caused by Microcephaly
- Dyslexia
- Eye squint corrected with surgery and now wears glasses and a patch
- Speech disorder
She can’t tell me why she’s not hungry, she just says she’s full up.
So constipation, long covid or something else?
