Kitchen essentials.

We are looking to have a new kitchen installed, but it’s a real minefield out there re essentials, extras etc. what would people recommend for a new kitchen? Our kitchen/dining area will be 7m x 3 m with a pantry area of approx 2.5 x 2.5. Any do’s/don’ts/can’t live withouts etc? We are looking to have an island with a seating area integrated in that. Needs lots of storage ideas to keep everything streamlined. Many thanks.

3m is a rather narrow space to have a meaningful island with circulation round it, depending on your doors/windows. It sounds like a big project, maybe consider an independent designer?

I was worried about that but we are also considering extending to allow this. We have an architect and kitchen designer coming out this week and I’ve looked at many brochures/visited shops etc to get the best ideas. Love kutchenhaus but wanted to get as many ideas as possible to put to the planner.

We’re getting new kitchen at present.

Must have for us we’re fridge AND freezer (currently only fridge).

Built i. Microwave. And storage. Maximise storage. No “circle”/kidney baskets in corner cupboard. Square baskets only.

Yes, we had a 50/50 one originally (12 year old house) and changed to a full one of each after child number 2 arrived. Definitely want a built in microwave, I’ve just seen one that has an air fryer do that will free up One appliance. I’d also love a fridge with a water/ice dispenser.

Why no circle or kidney baskets? I have those in my current kitchen. Is the idea behind tgst being you should have enough storage?

One feature I liked was pull down units with kitchen utensils hanging behind out of view. I’m also thinking of a narrow drinks fridge between the fridge/freezer.

For us yes. To absolutely maximise storage. So we can get things right in the corners. The guy who has done our kitchen design used to design boats. Which is partly why we chose him. He’s used to doing small spaces and maximising storage.

Also If you can get cabinets all the way up to the ceiling. Again max storage. Our guy has done this so we’ll get 4 shelves in a cupboard instead of the usual 3.

He’s also our drawers in the kick boards. For baking sheets etc.
