Infected finger?

Hello, is my finger infected? It’s hurting and turning red. Just wondering how I can treat it at home or whether it needs something stronger?

Soak it in hot water with a dash of dettol. As hot as you can bear. If there's infection it'll come to the surface and you can squeeze it out.

No idea, but I'd put some magnesium sulphate paste on it.

I had something similar shortly after giving birth. Red around the fingernail and very painful. I had to go to the walk-in clinic and get antibiotics.

Could it be the start of a whitlow

wendz86 · 19/02/2022 18:43

Looks like it . I had the same and it got really bad and I went to urgent care as 111 were useless and they made an incision and drained it . Apparently it has to be at a certain point to do that though.

Looks like a whitlow. You can buy magnesium sulphate paste at the chemist to use on it and also soak it in hot water regularly.

I actually have some magnesium sulphate from when I was trying to remove my daughter’s splinter so have just put some on. Thanks everyone.

Yes, it’s infected. I had exactly this so I did an e-consult and attached pictures - was prescribed antibiotics. A home remedy is in warm water with a bit of dettol or tcp for a few minutes several times a day, but mine didn’t properly heal until I took antibiotics.

I had this a couple years ago, started with an infected cuticle. Doctor gave me antibiotics, soaking etc didn’t work
