New Sofa! How Much?

I have been looking around for some new furniture for our sitting room.

Probably fairly traditional style, 3 seater sofa and 2 armchairs. Maybe a large footstool.

Now admittedly I haven’t bought this type of furniture for a while and I know that Brexit and inflation are having an effect on prices. But bloody hell the cost is far more than I expected. I also need new blinds, rugs etc and the room needs redecorated too. I am having palpitations at what the final cost of this refurb will be. It won’t add value as it looks perfectly fine at the moment. Not planning on selling anyway.

If you have recently bought a new sofa etc would you mind giving me a ball park figure and tell me where you got it.

Thanks

Bought my new one from IKEA. Affordable with machine washable covers.

I have two IKEA sofas already must be over 12 years old and they are still going strong. I am looking for something more traditional for the sitting room I think.

Just bought a corner suite in a sale £1025

Bought a 3 seater sofa and a loveseat (so big armchair but comfortably seats 2) for £2000 from Snug.

I really didn't want to wait months and these came within a week. Very happy.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 19/02/2022 19:22

Never mind the price….what about the TIME! The chair I ordered from DFS is on a 20 week lead time!

User48751490 · 19/02/2022 19:29

My sofas were delivered three weeks after ordering them - depends how long you want to wait.

Got a John Lewis sofa in excellent condition for free on Freecycle . Just had to pay £40 for a man and can to collect.
Seriously, check out used . There is so much out there and it costs next to nothing.

I need a new sofa but the one I want I am looking at £1500

ISeeTheLight · 19/02/2022 19:38

I'd expect to pay about £2k. We've bought both our sofa sets at Furniture Village and they've lasted very well. (Much better than our friends' DFS crap that wasn't cheap but was sagging within a month).

ShallWeTalkAboutBruno · 19/02/2022 19:39

Recently bought a 3 seater and a 2 seater and they came to £2k

Belindabelle · 19/02/2022 19:39

Yes the lead times are insane. 16-20 weeks on average.

We like the Tetrad Harris Tweed range. (DH more than me).
One 3 seater sofa, 2 armchairs and a large footstool. Almost £5K. Insane right?

Just googled them and yes, that’s a very expensive range.

FB marketplace or Gumtree. Immediate delivery and no palpitations over price. If not right you can sell on with no loss and get something different.

quince2figs · 19/02/2022 21:39

We have had an Ikea Kivik 3 seater delivered today. A bit of fiddly putting together - not difficult - and it is delightfully comfortable.
£450 for the fabric version in Anthracite - removable washable covers.
£50 for delivery with excellent text updates. Ordered 2 days ago - here lunchtime today!

Newbabynewhouse · 19/02/2022 21:45

Bought 2 matching 2 seater sofas originally from next for £300 from a second hand place last year they looked brand new and are in great condition..bargain!!!

barberousbarbara · 19/02/2022 21:54

I've had a couple of comfortable and reasonably priced sofas and chairs from Sofasofa. They're made in the UK and lead times are much shorter than the big companies, such as DFS.

Ordered new sofas in September. Still waiting!

I saw them in a showroom for £1600 (2 x 3 seaters), but got them online for £1200. Regardless of where I ordered them, it was a 24 week wait if I wanted to choose the colour fabric. You can get ready made ones quicker.
