Boob pain.

I’ve had a sore, achy right boob now for a good few months.

Can’t feel any lumps, been to doctors three times who have checked and because they can’t feel a lump they dismiss it or will they send me for an ultrasound as I am under 40yrs old. It’s sore and uncomfortable and very annoying (and worrying as I am scared the docs are missing something)

It’s the same throughout the whole month - nothing changes before, after or during that time of the month.

What could it be? Do I go private to see if I can find out what’s causing the pain?

I would go for the ultrasound if they're offering it. And I think the threshold for a mammogram is 36. I had one yesterday for the first time along with ultrasound as I also have been some tingling pain in one spot for a few weeks. My GP probably would have referred me but luckily I have private insurance through work so I used that. In my case it was nothing, just "active" breast tissue or something. Im sure it's fine but getting checked will give you peace of mind.

Get it checked but it’s probably hormones.

I had that last year in the breast I had had cancer in 3 years previously. I was told hormones at my yearly post-cancer check.

It could be costochondritis. Inflammation/soreness around the edges of where your rib cage connects. Can go on for ages and can be caused by underwired bra etc.

Basically could be chest wall pain. No lumps etc in breast but as they sit on the chest wall, it seems like it's them.

I had this and had exam and mammogram by the Breast clinic and it was that. Breasts were fine.

Thank you!
Sorry, there was a typo they WON’T send me for an ultrasound or mammogram so I’m just at a dead end. I’ve stopped the underwire bra’s and started primrose oil but right now nothing is making a difference. I feel I’ve just got to get on with it :(

Clinical guidance is that if pain persists after management measures (waiting to see if it goes away, changing fit of bra, OTC pain relief) you should be referred to the breast clinic.

I had a lump in my breast and breast pain. When I went to the GP she couldn't feel the lump at all, even when I pointed out where I had felt it she said she couldn't feel it but because I had felt it she took me at my word and referred me to the breast clinic. I had a mammogram and an ultrasound and it was all fine (hormonal changes and fibrous tissue).

@Bubnbutton have you had the vaccine/booster before this started? I had pain in my right breast which started a few days/week after I had my first vaccine in my right arm. It lasted months.

Bubnbutton · 18/02/2022 12:59

Thank you! I will push to go to breast clinic.
Yes had the vaccines.
My second was July then I’ve just had the booster end of Jan… never though of that.

Any update on this?

my left boob is killing me right now, especially when I lean on it, but my toddler did stand on me earlier. I also have red patchy veins on my boobs and am starting to think all sorts!

any advice on what to do, or where to go private?

No nothing - I am now pregnant and it seems to have subsided. I still do get the odd pain but nothing like before I was pregnant, I am going to see how it is after pregnancy and go from there. Sorry this isn’t much use to you.

Not to worry, I’m going to my GP about it this week, as it’s really starting to bother me! It now today just feels like my left boob! I could also be pregnant myself though. I feel like I’m about to come on, but haven’t, and I felt like that when I was pg with my lb. Plus the sore boobs and
feel tired all the time! All pregnancy symptoms!! Going to leave it a couple of days and see if I need to test!!
