I'm 28 and I feel like lots of people in their early-mid 20s are just obsessed with insta, tiktok and Snapchat. They spend hours trying to gain validation from others but seem to not be nice to each other in real life. I feel old before my time because I just can't be bothered with any of that shit. Like influences for example, good for them but who cares really? Am I just boring Grin

I don't think you sound sneery either. There is a difference to using mn and posting every aspect of your day on Insta or FB! I don't know how people find the time to do that.

@TyrannosaurusRegina

I don't think you sound sneery at all. Just a bit wtf at boring people who live their lives via SM.
But mumsnet is social media and the op is on here asking for validation that she’s better than them. She clearly knows there will be a bunch of people scorning social media shouting go you.

How different is it really?

Alittlepotofrosie · 17/02/2022 10:18

Um... Ok... So you're better than them. Good for you, i guess?

CrackerGal · 17/02/2022 10:46

@chestofdrawers I personally think mumsnet is different to other sm.
Perhaps you don't agree.
Mumsnet is anonymous, sm some people tend to post on it continuously, long statues (some read like a diary), multiple selfies a day, tagging every location when out & about ... all absolutely fine if your not actually seeking validation from the likes etc.
I've seen & talked to people who get depressed by seeing others "perfect" life facade on sm, holidays etc.
This is when you need to take a step back & recognise it for what it is imo.
If its making you unhappy in any way, or if you are finding yourself posting pictures or staging pictures deliberately for your insta or whatever. Or programmed to think I have to "check in" to this location I'm at on sm as your first thought instead of enjoying your day etc.
Sm is all smoke & mirrors imo.
This is from someone who used to use sm a lot years back, not millions of selfies or statuses etc but lots of kids pictures etc.
I do think mumsnet doesn't fall into the same category of needing personal validation as it's anonymous, unless perhaps you are posting multiple mumsnet posts a day, then it might become an issue.
If you can take or leave sm & use it just as a tool & don't need validation from it then you're using it correctly & shouldn't be an issue.

@chestofdraws I meant sorry!

I think you sound a bit.like "I'm not like other girls".

Which is equally as sad.
