Hello all

What photo ID can you get if you don’t have a UK passport or driving license?

Thanks!

Provisional driving license.

Ontopofthesunset · 16/02/2022 16:34

You can get a provisional driving licence which is what my sons who can't drive use. You need one to learn to drive but you don't actually need to be able to drive to have one.

A citizen-card www.citizencard.com

Thoosa · 16/02/2022 16:37

Yes provisional licence from the DVLA will be the most widely (universally?) recognised photo card you could carry, and much cheaper and easier to carry than a passport.

Akire · 16/02/2022 16:39

Citizen card is only £15 last for 3y provisional £43 last for 10 so not much in it.

CraftyGin · 16/02/2022 16:40

A provisional license is £34.

Thoosa · 16/02/2022 16:41

Provisional is £34. I just checked.

You can use a birth certificate and proof of NINO to apply if you don’t have a passport.

Lots of DD's friends applied for provisional licences as soon as they weee able as it's an easy and universally accepted form of photo ID.

Costs just over £30 and lasts 10 years.
You can apply for one without a passport, using other forms of I'd such as a birth certificate.

Abraxan · 16/02/2022 16:43

DD's friends found that some of the proof of age type cards weren't widely accepted.

iwantmyownicecreamvan · 16/02/2022 16:47

I found this a problem up until last year because I don't have a passport anymore as I don't go abroad now, and, as I had lived in my house since 1989 and am under 70, I still have the old paper licence. I had awful trouble transferring money from my bank to my brother's account in relation to inheritance off our parents. In the end I had to get a passport - annoying but sadly necessary.

badlydrawnbear · 16/02/2022 18:36

If you need ID soon, bear in mind that a provisional driving licence is taking forever. I applied in October and am still waiting. I gather that isn’t unusual.

It's £34 online, where you use your passport number.

But if you have to send paper application with photos and ID, it's £43
