Every half term

I am currently unwell and feeling awful
when it is half term. Again.

Have the most revolting heavy cold
and painful sinuses and have barely slept.

Literally have used an entire box of tissues overnight.

Children to be entertained and there's me, feeling unwell again

It was the same at Christmas. Except the entire family were poorly for the whole two weeks off.

Just feeling really annoyed. And snotty.

Gah 😩

Out of interest, are you a teacher?

Knickerbokas · 16/02/2022 08:57

I am a TA

Sorry no help, but anecdotally I hear its so common for school staff to get poorly in the holidays.

You just have to muddle through and best you can.

Weather is shit, kids can make do with a few low key days and hopefully you feel better soon. Easy food and extra screen time for a few days neve hurt anyone .

I'm impressed at @Crunchymum 's insight!

Do you think it's a case that as soon as you stop and rest for a bit all of the tiredness/illness catches up with you? Obviously not based on an iota of science, I just find that this always happens to me.

Same but this week it’s
Covid again

Noodledoodledoo · 17/02/2022 16:08

Teachers/School staff holiday illness is definitely a know phenomena - I have colleagues who are happy if they get sick in the last week of term as it snuck in early!! Has been like it for years - my mum was a teacher in from the 70's and it hit most holidays.

Think there is something non scientific about the stopping theory mentioned above - body stops fighting as you have time to be ill.

Best thing to do is keep up covid hand hygiene rules, boost immunity in the bug months - vitamins, elderberry tonic I have had recommended but not tried.

Icantremembermyusername · 17/02/2022 16:16

I work in a school - have done for many moons. I make 0 plans for the first weekend of any school holidays.
We sleep late, eat easy to prepare food, read, watch TV and chill out. A gentle walk weather permitting. Prevention is easier than cure, and if we do finish school unwell that couple of days allows us to cope better.
Hope you're feeling better soon x

Clarabellawilliamson · 17/02/2022 16:35

Yup, it's a thing! It's the drop in adrenaline and cortisol levels. I hope you feel better soon!

IHeartKingThistle · 17/02/2022 16:39

I'm a teacher and currently sick. Have had to cancel our weekend away.

It's so unfair (and we had OFSTED last week!) but so common. Feel better soon!

FurryGrowler · 18/02/2022 08:11

Thank you all. I now have an eye infection on top of it. Currently Covid negative but am feeling so rotten.

Wishing all those who are also feeling unwell a very speedy recovery. 💕

FurryGrowler · 18/02/2022 08:11

Oh I name changed as well! 🤣

I immediately thought 'bet you work in a school!' It's hard isn't it. Staying well and being on the go for everyone else for 6-7-8 weeks straight and then all the illness comes at once as soon as you stop!

Hope you feel better.

FurryGrowler · 18/02/2022 18:00

Thank you all.💕

My eyes are really playing me up, sinuses and the most horrible cold I think I have ever had. Even my face feels on fire - my skin feels itchy and all sorts 🙄

It really is revolting.

Hope anyone else who is feeling unwell gets better soon.

Yep, been ill all week with tonsillitis. Now have all the work to catch up on ready for Monday. First day I've felt fully human today.
